What currency to use in Ashdod and Aqaba

Going to Jerusalem and Dead Sea for Ashdod and to Petra for Aqaba. Probably not spending much as we only want fridge magnets and postcards, possible drinks. Do we need their local currency or do they take others eg USD or british pound or euros!

Aqaba and places from Aqaba such as Petra and Wadi Rum sterling and euros accepted (perhaps USD too), including one pound andone euro coins. They will quote prices in sterling and euros. Street traders may approach you to exchange coins for notes - this isn't a con, they can't exchange foreign coins for local money so help them out if you can.

Euros are widely accepted in Jerusalem etc for your sort of purchases though you'd get a better deal if you had shekels. Particularly if you overnite in port it's well worth getting a few shekels before you leave home (US members -in the UK we get better exchange rates than you do in the US) but its not essential.

Sterling isn't popular, and I doubt USD are any more popular.

A lot of vendors are small-time street merchants and stall holders, so plastic won't be much use for those small purchases. Plastic widely accepted in larger outlets in Israel
