Not sure of the Valor, but on the Legend you can smoke in your cabin and balcony if you have one. Please use ashtray when on balcony! I say this as a smoker myself who is quite aware of the etiquette, and have heard many non-smokers say smokers flick there ashes over the side. (Not all smokers do this!) the casino and bars allowed smoking, on deck there were special ashtrays along the railing. Some of the open areas where there were walkways did, some didn't. Dining and show lounges, no. A common sense person, as I'm sure you are, since you asked, will see that if there's an ashtray you can, if not, usually you can't!

Enjoy your cruise, we go on the Legend again in March!

Also, congrats on the new husband!

Cant smoke in the dining room or any where near where the food is served or

Public show rooms. You can smoke in the Casino. In your cabin. and on one side of the outside decks. It will all be listed on your carnival capers that will be waiting for you in your cabin

No smoking in the restaurants, and on one side of the ship when on deck. On some ships you can smoke in the main show lounge, but only on one side. You can smoke in the bars and lounges, but most of the lounges set aside one area for smokers.

WOW- what ship allows smoking in the main show lounge- i thought they were all smoke free. I know on the VIctory as soon as you came out of the show people were lighting up -left and right since there are ashtrays located there. (I wonder if that is still the case too)

Perhaps Kitty9 is writing about ships that cruise in Europe or other areas, we have never been on a ship that allows smoking in public rooms. Attitudes about smoking are much more relaxed in other parts of the world. Every cruise I've ever been on has been pretty much smoke free, with the exception of the smoking areas. We have found that there is an effort to accomodate everyones comfort level. You may want to encourage him not to smoke in your cabin, as the smoke will carry to the cabin next door and into the hallway. There is plenty of deck space, bar areas, the casino where he can indulge.

Perhaps you could ask for it ask a "gift" to you for Christmas, birthday, anniversary etc... My DH and I stopped smoking as a gift to our future children, so they could grow up with pink, healthy lungs, they are now 16 and 13. Good luck to you and him.

And if we don't have children, or personal loved ones to protect, us smokers tend to be cognizant of those who don't smoke. I have this philosophy, I smoke, don't want to impose my smoke on anyone, so, I will go to that outcast place to smoke and enjoy. It actually helps me to hold off one more hour before I have that smoke...however, when I smoke, in that appropriate place, at the appropriate time, please, please, let me enjoy...Yes, I am an addict, but don't need all you strangers to point that out to me. I will work on it my own time. Thank you and Merry Christmas.
