Day In Pago Pago

We docked here in October, and since customs was late clearing the ship, we lingered over breakfast. Unfortunately, our plans to hike in the national park were nixed because of the federal gov't shut-down. So we headed to the McDonald's to use their wifi. Even though the McD. server showed up on all our devices (several passengers had the same idea!), they must no longer pay for it, as it does not work. If you can find the public library (go left off the ship), they charge $5 for all-day use. An enterprising woman on our ship found the telecommunications building near the McDonald's, inquired about wifi, and they turned it on! We were able to sit on benches in the local market and use it free!

We then went back to the ship to get snorkeling equipment, walked to the bus station a couple of blocks going right off the ship, and took the local bus to Tisa's Barefoot Bar (ask for the right bus to catch). We paid $2 each, one way, and we paid $5 each to snorkel. The water was warm, and we saw plenty of fish. We snorkeled an hour or so before it started to storm, nixing plans to see more of the island on the bus or just walk around the shops near the pier. It poured on the bus ride to the ship, and we got drenched getting on board!

I highly recommend the local bus as well as Tisa's if you want to snorkel. If not, the bar and restaurant are a pleasant way to spend a couple of hours.
