Rules for taking video footage

Next week we sail on our first cruise and I was wanting to record a vlog while on board and post it later. I can't get Carnival to answer me on Twitter, so I figured I'd ask the multitudes of people here: What can the vets tell me about video-taking on board the ship? I'm not doing it for money, I'm doing it to capture the moments that pictures don't do justice for. I had planned on editing it and posting it to YouTube, but my page isn't one that turns a profit (it's not monetized).

Any help and/or advice is appreciated.

I've never had an issue with video or stills on a ship or out on an excursion. Everybody does it, so join the rest of us!

Thanks Stevie. I figured it was a common practice but I just wanted to make sure before I decided to even attempt it.

Most ships will 'ban' it when watching the stage productions, as it may violate copyright laws. (though I have rarely seen them enforce it)

Otherwise shoot away!

Go to Youtube. There are thousands of videos taken from on board cruise ships. Nothing to worry about aside from the above-mentioned restrictions during live performances.

If the Carnival ship is in the video, then you cannot use the video for commercial purposes without Carnival's permission. Otherwise there are no restrictions - except for common sense.

Once onboard you are fine, but I pretty sure they won't allow it in the terminal.

Lots of people take pictures or videos on board the ship - no problems here. What gets me really totally annoyed are the people who hold up the lines in the buffet because they have to take pictures or videos of every food item in the food line. Take whatever food you want and then take pictures at the table.

I think it would depend upon how evasive the recordings are. Be careful recording personal conversations and be careful offending anyone. Remember, complaints of passengers exhibiting obnoxious behaviour are usually taken quite seriously by cruise lines. Carnival ships are flagged in the Bahamas so I am not aware of the rules of that nation regarding video recordings.

Only restriction I know of is the shows.

Most of the points have been raised, such as videoing the shows, the staff members without permission, anyone and or their conversations without permission, the terminal, but also be wary when at security in ports, and or police in around various ports.

You may or may not be able to take pics or video in the Casino. Need to check with Casino Manager. Sometimes ok. Sometimes not.

You can do so when nobody is gambling without any problem.

I think I can help you here. just did an entire season of cruiseWeek.tv on carnival ships

generally if you have a small camera like a phone cam deal no one will care including carnival, there are like a bazillion blogs and posts out there, if however you want to do something much more involved like we took a group of 1st time cruisers on the ship and followed them around with a big camera 24/7 , then you will DEF be stopped by security and will need specific permission in advance. general bloggng and posting is fine, bringing your own film crew.. not so much :)

Taking photographs and videoing during a show is a big NO-NO.

But - it can be possible to get permission to take photos during a show, and I usually do. The camera I use is completely silent, it has no visible indications it's being used (i.e. no screen, no lights, no flash, the viewfinder isn't visible either) and I although the copyright to the photographs remains with me, I always grant the artist rights to use the photographs I take of them for personal and publicity purposes - and it's nice to see the photos on their websites and their agent's websites
