If I bring my own snorkel gear , may I use the trail? I guess my question is whether the 30 excursion fee is for something more than a rental fee?

I was wondering the same thing. Can one use the trails, I read there are 14, if they have their own equipment or do you have to pay $30.

My view on the trail (been on GSC once): I think it's freely accessible as it's just off the main beach and doesn't looks like it's supervised in some sort.

The developed side of GSC also does not seem to offer good/great places to snorkel, it's mainly man made and the other side of the island is the downwind side which could be better (see Google maps).
