Casino money from your onboard credit

Can you still get money in the casino from your onboard credit to play the

slot machines.

We were on the Silhouette last month and there was a sign posted by the casino cage that said any money withdrawn from you obc would be given in tokens that had to be run through the gambling process. You could keep any money won, you couldn't cash the tokens in. Say you gambled $5 token through the slot and got $3 back, the $3 you could keep. The days of paying the 5% penalty and taking the cash are gone.

On the Reflection your given promotional cash on your sail card and you could cash out the winnings on the slots.....we played the tables with obc and converted into cash.

Started with $150 obc and turned it into $220 cash.

Likewise on the Constellation, we turned $300 non-refundable OBC into promotional casino money and many hours of entertainment. We cashed out our winnings and walked away with just under $280 in Cash (USD).:D

It is just gambling, sometimes you win, sometimes you lose. Play for the entertainment and if you come out with any or all of it, then it would be extra special. I wish you good luck.:D

Did you get the chips at the table or the cage? Did they have any type of surcharge on the chips? We are on Reflection in November and this would be great as DH likes craps and blackjack!

So true! I'm not a big gambler but it can be a bit of fun. I always remember my first trip to Vegas...20 some years ago...I had heard all about the free drinks you got whilst playing the pokies so wss keen to enjoy a drink or two 'on the house'..

Well it turned out to be the most expensive free drink I ever got as think I'd spent $150 on the pokies before a waitress even came near me lol. But yes I did have fun [emoji13]

I also am curious regarding which ship the OP will be on.

We left the Eclipse several days ago. There was a sign in the casino regarding onboard credits with the following text:

If you wish to withdraw your Onboard Credit in Fortunes Casino, it will be for gaming purposes only.

Table players will be issued with promo chips.

Slot players will be issued with slot credits.

No cash alternative is available or Onboard Credits.

Thank you for your understanding.

Same thing on the Equinox last month.

It really is only fair. Too many people taking advantage of just cashing out their obc in the casino with no intentions of wagering.

We only play the slots and for us, it was much like the free play given out in Vegas. You go to the window to have promotional credits added to your card in the amount you specify. Enter your card into the machine and choose the option to play from the credits on your card....let's say you apply $20 to that machine. If you have used the $20 of credit and still have money left on the machine, that amount will upload to your card and you are able to turn that into cash. If you leave the machine before your $20 is spent, that amount plus any winnings are automatically uploaded back to your card. You will only be able to cash out your winnings and never the promotional credits.

Once you've used all your onboard credits, the casino will be able to provide you with cash instead of promotional credits. It will still be charged to your folio.

.....

Wonder if we were on some of the same legs -- we boarded on April 17th and were on for 35 nights. We have yet to return home (I am typing this from Iceland) so haven't made the adjustment to home life yet. Always a surprise when I realize that dishes just don't clear themselves from the dining table following a meal.

We don't gamble, but since this issue has been raised several times during the past few months we took a photo of the sign in the casino. And the Celebrity Today printed several info blurbs too. The one in the May 15 was:

Got Onboard Credit?

All non-refundable Onboard Credits are redeemable for exchange via purchase in the Galleria Boutiques, Canyon Ranch Spa Club, Photo Gallery, Park West Art Gallery and for gaming in Fortunes Casino. There is no cash alternative.

Here is a question: when you ask for $100 at the casino cage - do say that you want cash out OBC? I don't think cashier can see you account and confirm if you have OBC or not.

You ask to buy chips using your on-board credit. They will check and if they see you have an on board credit, they will give you promotional chips $100 of OBC for $100 of chips.

If you don't have an OBC or it is used up (of if you want cashable chips instead of promotional chips), they will charge you the 5%...$105 for $100 of chips but they will give you real cashable chips.

Before someone asks, no I don't know how this is handled in accounting....I thought that if you buy $105 of anything, it will first be taken from your OBC...so maybe this is still a way around the promotional chips....I don't know.

I don't know if the roulette game has a limit, but my suggestion would be just to get all the obc in chips, bet half on black, half on red, and hope green doesn't come up. All one hand.

My only other option would be to buy something onboard that can be easily sold at home...an ipad for example.

I'm sad to see the cash-back of obc go. For us, with included drink package, prepaid tips, free internet, etc, we rarely use much of the obc., except for a few specialty dinners and an occasional shore excursion. We.have cashed in the last couple of cruises. I know it can be used in shops, spa, casino and everywhere else, but we rarely use much obc. . The cash out was a very nice perk, After all, Celebrity & my travel agent gave it to us, why shouldn't we take it home as cash instead of unneeded watches, souvenirs, pictures we never look at again, and oh so many other things that just gather dust? Using it in the casino is a sure way for me to just flush it down the drain.

An on board credit from Celebrity is not and was never meant to be a lower fare....it is an amount to be spent on board on "you pick what you want" items....it is a reduction in the total amount you might have spent on the ship. Somehow, folks have gotten the idea that it was essentially a discount....no, if it was a discount, you would have seen it offered as a discount.

Obviously, a $300 on board credit doesn't really cost celebrity $300. If you buy something, celebrity gets a cut of it; if you purchase a specialty meal, there is a profit built in for Celebrity. If Celebrity just gave you the $300, then it costs celebrity $300....and that would essentially be a discount.

Sorry you can't take advantage of loose Celebrity accounting any more....but this is the way On Board Credits should always have been implemented.

Celebrity really has no stake in OBC's given by TA's so those are refundable directly to you if you don't spend them. The TA paid $300 and it costs Celebrity nothing to just pass that on to you if you choose not to spend it. In that case, it really is a discount offered by your TA...not by Celebrity.

No surcharge, either at the cage or the table. If using cash, extra chips are provided (up to 15% extra).

Sorry but the Promotional chips cannot be used on the red black or odds even lines.

You will need to bet on a particular number or numbers.

Not true on the Summit. My wife and I used $350 promotional chips doing that very thing. I bet red, she bet black. 0 came up only once. Cashed in $340.

We got the chips at the table.....if you look like your playing they didn't seem to worry about it.

Played the Roulette tables.

My friend went to the cage for slots $ and was told he had obc to use and they loaded promotional $ onto his card....he cashed out his winnings and lost the rest.

The tables seemed a better option to convert obc to cash.
