Snobbiest thing I heard on my recent Divina cruise out of Rome...

It was the 2nd of 3 formal nights and we rode the elevator down with another couple, apparently Americans like us.

A blonde, who impressed me as trying to seem far classier than I suspect that she actually was, was complaining to her male companion about the other passengers.

He then said, in the most affected and snobbiest of ways, "That's why *we're* (emphasis added) in the *Yacht Club* (more emphasis). So we won't have to deal with *those* people (even more emphasis)."

I felt like saying, "I'm not in the Yacht Club, I probably paid less than half of what you paid, I'm having a fantastic time, and I enjoy the other people and cultures!"

Instead, my GF and I just looked at each other and simultaneously rolled our eyes.

I know it's unlikely in this case, but that's the kind of thing my SO might say jokingly/sarcastically. But even still, we'd keep our dry sense of humor to a lower volume. (Edit: unless you mean they were being racist, which I might have missed. So no, we wouldn't be making that kind of joke.)

That said, I find it interesting that you back-handedly implied something unsavory about the blond. Judgement goes both ways.

All I can do is give you my best read. And that was my read. Just trying to paint a word picture, as I saw it.

LOL Read Celebrity board . My favorite one how they suggest people to cruise on Carnival if they don't like X "luxury" . We had one lady in elevator as well, who made a comment about how Celebrity must meet people with umbrellas if its raining . Exact words were " they must put crew members to walk people with umbrellas .It's Celebrity its not Carnival after all" . After she left everyone star laughing and making comments how nice it would if crew members walk around shops and pick up 2000 people or even maybe care them on there backs)

I would much rather have that type of comment, all be it snobby. Then the racist remark directed at me on my Divina cruise in April. I ended up telling the woman off and letting her group know just how racist she was...... snobby comments can be shrugged off, racist comments are disgusting especially when you think your on vacation and escaping that.

I don't understand their attitude. Whether inside or outside the Yacht Club area, they were still on an MSC ship.

I had a woman on my last NCL cruise whisper rather loudly to her travel companion that my infant daughter,my wife and I looked like we didn't belong in the Suite waiting area on embarkation day, I smiled and waited with my family. She continued to be snotty with all the other suite guests, constantly throwing it out there that she was in the biggest penthouse suite onboard. We were finally escorted to lunch as a group they explained they would call us into the restaurant by room number starting with the owners suite and moving down to the penthouses. She gave me one more sneer.... Until my family was called first. As I walked past her I invited some really nice "lower suite" guests to our suite for champagne and hot tub for sail away. For the rest of the trip she avoided eye contact with me and got really red faced.

That's a great story. I love it!

I think we meet on the Bermuda cruise. Were you traveling with a girlfriend from Canada that you usually only get to see once a year for a cruise? One of you was a nurse? If so I always looked forward to seeing you guys down in the "steerage" lounges each night. Really loved this cruise.

When I read blonde, I started to get worried it was me. Except, I wasn't in Yacht Club and my complaints were about how rude so many passengers were with elevators. By the end of my trip, I couldn't keep my mouth shut lol.

Elevator thing is a perk of the YC. There are 1 or 2 elevators that are express. You slide your card in and it goes straight to the YC skipping any other floors that are pressed. I used it not often but a couple of times and yes people get upset. Why blame it on the passengers? This is what the cruise line implemented. There are plenty of elevators and only the forward elevators have this feature. People were upset when we didn't have to wait in line to get thru security. They made awful remarks, again part of the YC.

YES that was us, I'm an Ultrasound Technologist and BFF is from BC Canada. Yes and we were all over that ship!! LOVED it!!! Back on for a B2B in December in the YC. Can't wait!!!

Jenna 1983 - in my comment in response to your comment about the elevator I just assumed you were speaking about the express YC keys. Then I thought maybe you were talking about people being rude as far as letting people off before they run you over to get in.... I don't like that myself. So not sure what you were actually referring to... sorry if I got it wrong.

For those of you who haven't come across the 2 (and only 2 of the forward 6) lifts, this is the outside slot where you insert your cruise card and override all non-YC guests calls. there is a similar slot once inside the lift.

Yes but I very much doubt that was what was annoying Jenna.

Let's say elevator etiquette is not universally the same. bRits , Americans and quite a few other nationalities wait for people to get off before getting on, they also wait their turn when an elevator arrives and allow people who have been ther before them to get on. We consider it polite and manners. Not all countries have that tradition though.

Not us Canadians we never apologize and always push into elevators [emoji23]
