No One Makes You Cruise on Celebrity, So Why Flame People Who Comment About Their Own Experiences?

Please allow posters to comment on questions about Celebrity without being flamed. If you disagree, do it constructively. CC is a good site for information! It is not a nice experience to be flamed and serves no purpose for the OP or anyone else. Anyone else agree?

I absolutely agree. I love CC but everyone has to realize that opinions should be read and accepted. Not slandered, because you disagree.

The only negative review I have given was a review of a private tour, Captain Bobs in St Marten. I gave a lengthy explanation on why I was not happy with this tour and WOW!!!!! People were all over me....How can you say that? I loved it! etc....etc.....

I don't think that they really stopped to process what I wrote.

I have wondered why people don't like the fact that there are newbies here or others who want to discuss something again or at least new to them.

I skip over threads that I don't want to read or I have been a part of previously and have moved on.

Guess they have not gotten over it! :) or they have an agenda.

It is an unwritten rule not to give a opinion that doesn't praise or makes any truthful observation about Celebrity that the self appointed chosen "gods" on this site dont agree with.

A few years ago I gave my observation about how things were changing on Celebrity and cuts were being made, nothing negative just the truth. I was told by the chosen few self designated "gods" on here that if I wasn't happy with Celebrity I should quit cruising on them.

I quit posting on this site for over a year but trolled. Amazing what I wrote about is now becoming a issue with those that told me that I was just too negative and if I wasn't happy with X to quit cruising. Many of them are even threatening to take their business to a different cruise line.

Happy cruising 🌊🇺🇸🚢🌞

Some pax have a great time. Others for some reason don't(at least in their opinion) We felt the food was a major let down on our Jan. Eclipse trip. Being in the food industry is was a surprising letdown from past trips. I'd like to think it was a somewhat inexperienced chef. Overall, though the cruise itinerary was excellent as always.

Ridiculous.

This is the nature of social media. It is all about opinions.

It's the ultimate marketplace of ideas. The concept that everyone should just state their opinion, within a narrowly confined set of rules, and also not respond in the negative is antithetical to the entire premise. Furthermore, I've seen multiple posters say that comments should be confined to answering the thread starters question. That's absurd. This is not an FAQ. Sharing information is certainly part of it, but so is the rest that comes along with it.

Celebrity is my favorite mainstream cruise line, and a suite on Celebrity is equal to anything else I have enjoyed. I haven't sailed long enough to have witnessed the 'glory days' which others bemoan, although I don't love every single thing about the current Celebrity product [especially the unmusical music everywhere]. But I would never tell anyone that their good -- or bad -- experience on a cruise is wrong. It was your experience, so it was true for you and that makes it as valid as anyone else's experience. And to the fans who react to any besmudging of their favorite cruise line [this applies more to certain other threads even than here]: you should be aware that you are frightening off new cruisers who fear they will be forced to walk the plank if they don't love everything on their first cruise! [i speak from experience, as there is a certain line I will never try because of one poster on its forum]

Not lack of people who think there way is the only way.

Look at Bottled water threads on almost any line, OMG it's bottled water no is forced to buy it or drink it, same with drinks packages and about 20 other things.

When I post advice I always try to differentiate facts from personal opinion...for example opening times in Luminae vs thoughts on the food quality. When I ask questions I will 'sift' through the responses accordingly, acknowledging the facts and then reflecting on the range of opinions....

I think that problems arises when people are so fixed with their opinion they believe it to be a truth....

I haven't had much in the way of negative responses but on one or two occasions have been a little surprised at quite harsh responses to what I considered a reasonable question. One occasion that springs to mind was when I asked about the amount of free laundry for top suites and received a response to the effect 'if you can afford a suite why are you bothered about laundry costs?' I was very touched by the posts that followed that not only answered my question but made it very clear that they felt the 'critical' comment was out of order.

If I do see a comment I feel is 'harsh' I will sometimes respond (if I have the topic knowledge) in a more positive way....I do think that parents asking about restaurants do get more than their fair share of 'opinions' when all they are doing is trying to find out the facts....

I find it curious that people get uptight about other peoples views.

For example; Cel X allow people to remove auto-grats for any reason -However if anyone dares to publish this fact in the forum all hell breaks loose.

And whatever you do- don't suggest that a certain CD is not your favourite . Hi de Hi [emoji12]

I think you are correct in that at times people and I include me in this have wanted their/our 'opinion(s)' to be given the level of 'fact(s)'

A lot of us get upset when we "really" know the reason for removing the auto tip. Do remember that some (like me) do depend on gratuities for part of our salary & when I see pax do this, it's really stiffing those who took care of you. We get real tired of hearing about "Well it's not MY job to see that the cruise lines pay you a good wage". I know you're from a generally non tipping culture, but when people are in a region where tips are part of the norm, then they should respect that norm. Simple as that.

Many posters are incredibly Celebrity brand loyal and proud of their status. Along with that loyalty comes freebies that others pay (sometimes pay steeply) for. Many with high status get all the free drinks they need with their free vouchers or Captain's club cocktail hours, so changes to inclusions or exclusions on a drinks package makes no difference to them. Sometimes that loyalty might be blind. I'm personally surprised how many people rush to book a brand new design of ship (e.g. The Edge) at inflated prices before the ship is even built, on the promise of what Celebrity tell them it will be like. A criticism of Celebrity will naturally call into question why they are so loyal and people may be defensive. If I enjoy a steak in a particular restaurant and you tell me the steak in that restaurant is rubbish, does that mean I don't know one of a cow from another?

Some posters are shareholders so cut backs or increases of charges on things they don't use are great because it makes the cruise line more profitable. Criticism that isn't challenged and overruled risks putting off other customers and risks making the cruise line less profitable which is very bad for them. Me, I am not a shareholder, I want the best possible cruise with as many inclusions as possible at the best possible price, and if I can pay less than I did previously great. I'd rather a penny be in my pocket than the cruise lines or a shareholder's.

Finally, some posters are naturally argumentative and would happily row with their own reflection.

It really doesn't do any good to rant and rave about stuff you didn't like on Cruise Critic. You need to deal with it while you're on the ship. If you have a substantive complaint, my experience has been that they will deal with it. I walked into my sky suite a few cruises ago and found some sort of hoist thing blocking my view from my balcony. Really? An obstructed view from a sky suite? I simply sat down and wrote a letter to the hotel director stating that I objected to paying full price for an obstructed view cabin and that I believed Celebrity ought to disclose the fact that the cabin had an obstructed view and price it accordingly. I received a very substantial credit for my next Celebrity cruise.

I like the point that others have made about facts vs. opinion. My opinion is that I don't care for Tuscan. I've been there 3 times and just haven't enjoyed the food or the service. Others love it. Those are opinions. The fact is: Tuscan is a restaurant.

I was on that cruise and I totally agree with your opinion about the food. In fact that is one of the major factors causing me to movie on to Azamara and Oceania. I also agree that the itinerary was a great 14 night cruise.

I was most surprised recently that I'm actually getting the RCL Shareholder benefit on our upcoming Azamara cruise. I never was able to get it on a Celebrity cruise even though I had enough cruises to hit Elite.

I haven't ruled out Celebrity in the future, however they will need to give me a good itinerary at a fair value with excellent food without me having to book a specialty restaurant to receive the quality.

It doesn't matter to me whether someone else likes or dislikes something relating to their cruise. They are entitled to their opinion and experiences because that's subjective. Thus I agree with the OP too.

I also enjoy Celebrity and we always take a suite. The service is wonderful, suite perks etc. are as good or not better than many of the other Luxury/Luxury Lite lines we frequent.

We do prefer smaller ships (under 1000 pax) but X can be fun and different and we have always enjoyed ourselves.

I have also been frightened off of another cruise line due to a poster that makes anyone who disagrees "walk the plank". However, they have a wonderful itinerary in 2019 and I bit the bullet ;)

Celebrity knows how many cabins it has to fill, and thanks to your Captains Club membership they know if you're rebooking or leaving. If you are leaving ( and seek a status match) it will know if RCL still gets your money.

They know how far in advance you book, what cabins you book, how much you spend in the casino, the bar, what you drink. Plus loads more thanks to Captains Club.

They're bound to have an idea if people are leaving, and know whether they've replaced you with a more profitable one, or not.

I haven't left. At least not yet. But I know some of their elites that after their last cruise, are really going elsewhere and new cruisers to the line are not returning. At least that was the commentary. I also noticed a huge drop in the lines in FCS office between my 2015 and 2016/2017 holiday cruise.

I am very new to cruising. I have only cruised with X twice. I have cruised other lines. I noticed a big change between the two cruises. I am booked again but we will see.

I have an eye for details and I am sure their bean counters don't find me profitable. But when I can cruise 2.5 times on another line that isn't quite has nice or one on X , it makes me think.

Only time will tell.

We can always agree that we disagree. I enjoy constructive criticism and more importantly, finding out important information about Celebrity, tours and experiences...everyone is entitled to their viewpoints. If one does not like the opinions or what they feel is flaming of people on CC, they are entitled to block them. I find it interesting when someone specifically asks for just the facts and not opinions that they are given everything including the kitchen sink. However, as you say, that is your prerogative. I , personally would very much appreciate posters to not use the attack mode, but that is me and my opinion...so if it is "rubbish" to you, you are entitle to your opinion. Yes, I know better than to respond to some posters, but this is my opinion. I would enjoy the opportunity to meet you onboard and converse face to face rather than just on CC. There are so many other parts to communication than just words.
