Have 41,111 points currently. Been nice to have had triple points in December when I paid our cruise off. :) My question is, are these points only redeemable in 5,000 point increments or would my onboard credit be $411 if redeemed now ? If 5,000 point increments then, to get to 45,000 points I would have to charge $4,900 or about 1/3 that with NCL and all our reservations are already covered. For $50 additional onboard credit. My cruise is in August, how close to sailing can I redeem points ? I believe my statement closing is the 10th of the month. Regards, Gerry

Hi Last jan I cruised and used 250.00 obc and Made new points with using my card for on board account to make new points, (to me it was like free money even though If I left it to pay my bill I think it would have been a few bucks more than what I had on OBC... and I called about 2 weeks prior to cruise date, I made sure I got an email conformation before hanging up with them JUST in case of any glitches printed it and brought with me, but when I got to my room I had several OBC cards with amounts on each of them..

I was just looking at the rules today. It seems like a better deal to take the rewards in cash and use the NCL card for onboard expenses to get the triple points. The OBC is only available in $50, $100 $150 increments from what I read. Cash is paid on the entire balance and is at par to OBC if you have more than 25,000 points. Am I missing something?

I've always just taken the cash..... anything else just seems like a headache and I am not sure you come out ahead anyhow....

I agree; in most cases, just take the cash, NOT an On Board Credit(OBC).

But, I don't agree that it's a headache to do more.

IF you can accumulate enough points, and if you go through hoops of fire(make sure you have your information ready for the NCL sales representative, since THEY are not going to help save you money; they just do the bookings.

The “Double meta upgrade” has saved us hundreds of dollars on our next cruise.

Inside to Balcony upgrade stateroom on 5-day or longer cruise: Balcony (Double meta upgrade)

agree completely with shipshape, except rather than saving hundreds using the double cross meta upgrade, we saved thousands!

Us too - - really love the double cross meta upgrade. Paying for an inside stateroom and receiving a balcony in exchange for 60,000 points is excellent :)

New to the NCL MasterCard. Can you tell me what category I would have to book to be able to upgrade to a haven room with the double cross meta upgrade?

Upgrading via either meta upgrade or double cross meta upgrade only goes to balcony level. Here is link to NCL's website explaining the Worldpoint rewards.

As usual KJQuilts is right....

my suggestion before you call to book your room, is to identify what balcony stateroom you want to end up in and then the customer service agent will tell you what inside you will be paying for....

in our case, I actually went ahead and booked the balcony room we wanted as we were a few points shy of 60K and a month later, called back and it was repriced so I paid for an inside. It was a category BC so we paid for not the cheapest inside but an IC? something comparable in the all-but-impossible-to-understand category system.

If you book with a TA I assume the charge shows the name of the TA's company rather than NCL...is that correct? I just recently found a TA I like so booked two of my three upcoming cruises with her. How does it work if the charge reflects the TA's company's name? Do I need to jump through some hoops to get the triple points?

With triple points, when I pay these three off, it'll mean about 15,000 points, so I want to make sure I'm credited for three per $ instead of one!

Thanks!

I just paid for a cruise using my new NCL master card and the charge shows up on the Bank of America mobile site as Norwegian Cruise Line not Travelocity.

No matter where you charge it, and it's for NCL it will show up NCL with your triple points. So enjoy how ever you decided to spend your points

Great! Thank you both. Two of my upcoming cruises are booked with a TA and I'm prior to final payment dates, so just wanted to confirm that though I'll pay my TA with my NCL card, I'll get the triple points. :D

A member suggested that I "sticky" a thread dedicated to the NCL Mastercard. Great idea! Please post all the facts you have on the card and the program and answer as many of those FAQ's that you've seen here on the board. You can even link to other threads on Cruise Critic if needed. Let's try to make this thread "Just The Facts" so members can get the information without having to search through pages of posts. Thanks![/quote

Update 2016 with World points with MasterCard Bank of America. Now if you apply for the credit card and call ncl in advance, (A Must) you can get a $100 OBC has to be within a month of getting approved of your credit card. Now it's one point on everything you buy and two points on all ncl products. Make sure you call the bank find out how many reward points you have. If you've been paying ftoward your cruise each week & your not getting a statement of your rewards, you gotta stay in top of that info with the bank. They've made mistakes on my account three times, and I actually had to go to a bank of America bank each time to get it straighten out.

Your information is incorrect. It is three reward points on Norwegian purchases. I have had no issues with my reward points or statements.

I just applied for the card earlier this week and was approved. The balance of our future cruise us due in a month. Per the above post, is the 100 obc in addition to the 10k bonus points and 3 points per dollar spent on ncl purchases. If so how to I go about claiming?

The $100 onboard credit is the same as the 10k bonus points. You don't get both.

You get 10K points when you're approved for a new card--that's the equivalent of $100 OBC. You don't have to call anyone to get it or in advance. It's automatic. You don't have to use it within a month of being approved; it just goes into your rewards account and if you want to use the points toward OBC, you can do that whenever your next cruise is.

The triple points are also automatic. That was a recent change--just a few months ago, I believe. I got triple points about 5 weeks ago when I paid off my next NCL cruise and bought my spa pass.

I'm sorry you've had trouble with your rewards account. Like Heather 1972, I've had no issues and all my rewards points have been posted accurately to my rewards account.

Us too - - really love the double cross meta upgrade. Paying for an inside stateroom and receiving a balcony in exchange for 60,000 points is excellent :)
Since redeeming 60,000 points is the equivalent of 600 dollars, IMHO, spending 300 per person to upgrade from an inside to a balcony is not an excellent value. But of course some people don't see the value with the UBP or SDP and they prefer the internet or shore excursion options.

We used the double cross meta upgrade for our Feb 2017 Panama Canal cruise on the Jewel. Our total cost for category BB balcony including both the beverage and dining (6 meal) packages is under $3,300. We booked early, paid for an IB inside category and used 60,000 points to receive the BB balcony of our choice. Could have had a higher rated balcony but selected a stateroom close to the ocean view cabins friends have booked. We'd rather spend 14 days in a balcony stateroom than an inside :)

We save points and use them for longer more expensive cruises. Our sailing is totally sold out but there are still staterooms available on the Jan 6th sailing. On that cruise an IB inside for 2 passengers with just UBP is now around $3,900. A BB balcony on same cruise with UBP and shore excursion (so gratuity charge is equal comparison) is around $6,400 which is a $2,500 difference. Seems to me that is better use of 60,000 points than receiving $600 or $600 OBC.

KJ and I are of a like mind on this issue. We also used a double cross meta upgrade to move from an inside to a balcony for our 19 day Tampa to Vancouver canal cruise. You can look back through this thread to see exactly what we "saved" but as I recall it was at around the same as what KJ is "saving". Of course, because of a reduction in fare after final booking, we were actually able to reinstate our points into our account so we are hoping to use them on an upcoming cruise.....but are waiting to book a long one since the upgrade is by cruise and not by number of days.

If you do your homework and use your points wisely it is worth 10X that.

I just used 60,000 points for a double cross meta upgrade on a 41 day cruise and the difference in cost is $6000 :D

The meta/double meta upgrades do not work with CAS booking. I tried a year ago and was turned down.

I agree.

Anytime you try to make a deal such as CAS, using a casino, you will lose.

Try just using your credit card points for a double-meta upgrade. :)

Hey all...

So I'm not sure if I read it correctly, but I just applied for the card, and I could have sworn at the point of paying the deposit, if I spent over $500 within the first 30 days, I would receive a $100 statement credit (different from the OBC you receive with the 10k points promotion for the first transaction done).

Is this true? I used the card, and my promotional points are "pending", but I'm also wondering about the statement credit. I'm assuming it will be applied once the cycle closes...I guess I should really just be patient, haha. But I'm curious if I was seeing things, or maybe misread. Has anyone taken advantage of this promotion? Did you receive both the $100 statement credit AND the 10k bonus points? Or did I read too quickly, and in actuality I can convert the 10K points into $100 statement credit or OBC.:confused::confused:

Sorry for all the questions. I'm just curious...thanks!

10,000 points can be converted to a $100 statement credit but with all the wild offers floating around you could have an extra bonus. Now what deposit are you talking about?
