Transport from BCN to Center of City Hotel

Recommended Posts

We have not flown into Barcelona before and will need to travel from the airport to our hotel near the Placa Catalunya. The issue is that we will have 2 large and 2 smaller bags and the Aerobus could be a big hassle, especially getting bags on/off and to our hotel approx. 3-4 blocks from the final bus stop (wife mobility somewhat limited).

However, I also see that online rates for cabs usually specify 3 "medium" bags as a limit. Seems to be an issue both from the airport or if we got a cab at the bus stop for the short trip to the hotel.

All suggestions from people who have been there and done that would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks in advance

I think you'll be fine with a taxi. Might depend on how large your bags are. We had a 28" bag, a 26" bag, a 21" backpack, an 18" tote, and a CPAP case. The taxi driver had no trouble fitting them. He didn't charge extra for more than three medium bags.

Thank you Mary Kay for your REALLY fast reply.

Your example is very helpful as wife also has a 28 inch bag, my large bag is 22" and the other two we have are small enough to carry on the plane so should be no problem with the cab from your description.

Do you happen to remember what the fare will be from the airport........will be planning to get some Euros to have for our first days in town.

For us, the fare was around 35 Euros from the airport to the Hotel Jazz, which is not far from Playa Catalunya.

I used taxi-finder.com which is valid for international travel

You input your details online and then local companies will contact you with their quotes

It cost 37 euros from Barcelona airport to hotel near Pl Cataluyna about the same price as a taxi off the rank

Advantage was that we were met with a name sign at arrivals and he took charge of our bags and escorted us to our private hire vehicle curbside-no waiting in line

He even had a bottle of water for us!

Am using same company in July

Thank you also Bob. That is the amount I was expecting and it will likely be our best alternative. We are at the Yurbban Trafalgar which is probably exactly the same distance from the Placa as the Jazz.

Here is the 2016 taxi fare publication:

http://taxi.amb.cat/documents/956832/1007019/Tarifestaxi2016/13e8e279-5712-426e-8dce-da5f8dd6dc7b

I forgot to mention that they add 1 Euro per bag they put in the trunk (boot?). The publication seems to indicate that two bags are included so maybe it's 1 Euro per bag over the first two.

Can anyone advise what I should do as I will be travelling with a party of 6. 2 of us will each have 1 large 29" bag, 1 medium 26" bag and a 21" carry on (so 3 pieces of luggage each the last 4 will have 4 large 29" bags, 2 medium 26" bags and 4, 21" carry on bags (total of 10 bags). We're all women so we need lots of clothes and shoes! That being said, would we fit all of us and our bags on the Airport bus. Alternatively, could we take one cab for 6 or would each pair have to take a cab. We are staying at Hotel Jazz. Any other suggestions would be helpful.

For your party of 6, you may want to reserve a private van. That could be cheaper than 3 cabs and keep everyone together during the transport. Just search airport transportation Barcelona on Google or whatever search program you use.

I think maybe cabs from the airport cost more than cabs to the airport. Maybe an airport pickup fee?

We went from hotel, near Placa Catalunya, to airport and the fare was just over 26 Euros. We gave the driver 30 Euros because at the airport he got a nearby luggage cart and piled our luggage on it for us because of husband's bad leg.

I would contact/email your hotel, explain about the luggage and then get them to book you a taxi.

All European hotels normally offer this service and will book you with someone they know is reputable.

If you have any problems then you can ring the hotel and ask them to sort

Last month we took a taxi from BCN to our apartment near the Sagrada Familia. Two people, with two large and two medium bags. Cost was around 36 euros. We just took the first on in the cue.
