Question For Casino Cruisers

I was wondering about the tips....I have seen them put the tip on top of the roulette wheel and then they ring their bell, I guess to let the bosses know. But how do they get their tips or are they just divided every night. Doesn't seem fair. DH always tips when he wins. I hope I am not slammed, but I don't see WHY people do this. It is a game of chance and if you win, it has nothing to do with the dealer. I mean, I don't tip the guy who puts gas in my car and he is actually performing a service. DH is a cop and he doesn't get tipped when he goes on a call...okay, there is my mini rant/opinion and I am ready for some slamming! OP, sorry I could not answer your question! And yes, I see all the dealers "clapping" their hands all the time and DH finally explained it is to show the eye in the sky that their hands are empty. :p

Because tipping the dealers can boost your ability to get comps... you give, you get.

As a dealer myself, we make below min. wage..same as waiters...Tips are our source of income. Yes, we deal the game..but we also provide (hopefully) an enjoyable experience..provide excellent service and accurate payoffs...

We learn the different games on our own time, no pay, and it takes a while.

We have to deal with difficult players, both drunk and abusive, and ignorant.

If you want mechanical...play slots..there is no interaction there!

Its the same as going to a restaurant..you are getting service, so it is customary to tip..if you dont want to tip, eat at fast food!

just my $.02...

Kudos to you!!!! Most dealers like me and quirkiness [emoji23][emoji23]

I tip at the end.of.the evening of playing craps. I tried playing for them as well, but i kept.losing and i like to make sure they get tipped.

Same here. When done playing, I color up the chips and give them the small change.

Another thing to do is give them a choice if they want a tip played for them or just cashed in. 9 times out of 10 they will just accept the tip. It's a sure thing that way.

And my experience is the exact opposite. Most times I have offered they prefer the bet.

when i gamble i do it as entertainment. i do it for the fun and excitement of it. it is discretionary funds. i have a certain amount of money a night and when its gone it is gone. if i win or break even it is a bonus and adds money to my gambling stash.

so when i gamble i drink, i have a good time and always interact with the dealers. i mostly play craps. and on a cruise the crap table is usually not really crowded. it is usually the same 6-8 players every night playing. everyone gets to know each other and the dealers know everyone who plays. it is a good time. i always tip. if i am on a hot streak i will give the dealer a tip. when it is my turn to roll the dice i always put a $2 bet on the pass line for the dealer and when the point is made i put odds on the bet for the dealer. the dealers really appreciate the bet for them.

my last trip on the pride i was playing craps by myself for 2 hours no one else came to play. but i was on fire. i ended up winning over $800 in 2 hours on the $5 table. i had been tipping as i was playing and betting for the dealer. i was winning so much i didn't realize how much i had tipped the dealers over the 2 hour span. but every time the dealers changed and the pit boss came over to check the table the stick man made sure to let them know that i was taking care of everyone. towards the end of the run i did look at the pile they put to the side that was my tips and it was over $100. but starting with $200 and walking away with $1000 i was more then happy to give the dealers $100 in tips. the pit boss bought me many drinks and i received some good offers when i got home.

I play slots and have VIP casino status on most of my cruises. When you play a lot of slots they give you drinks for free..so what I do is make sure that whoever brings me the free drinks I make sure to tip them extra. They get to know you, know what you like to drink and give you wonderful service. I have been lucky recently on the cruises and have won big bucks. I make sure I tip the cashier who cashes me out and usually look for the casino host and tip them also. These people work very hard and it's the least anyone can do and they do appreciate it.

Thanks for the information. I just wasn't sure if the "house" frowned on tipping the dealers while you were playing, or are worried that the dealers might be skimming chips. Now I know :)

Thats how I get my free drinks in the casino. The pit boss knows EVERYTHING and will reward customers who "take care" of their dealers. I play Let It Ride almost exclusively and place a $1 bet for the dealer every hand. That way when I hit a great hand the dealer wins too and I don't tip for that win. Their win is probably more than I would tip anyway. I would imagine that the pit boss shares in the tip pot too. I do know that all casino tips are pooled and split among all dealers. As a result of my tipping method, the pit boss buys most of my casino drinks.

We've had the drinks on us card the last couple of cruises.. I heard that the casino includes a tip automatically to the waiter? Is this true??? I always tip $2 anyway.

We also have drinks on us card. We always assumed that they got their 15% tip, but we always tipped $1-$2 extra also. Then one of the servers who had an ATTITUDE anyway, told us tips are NOT included and we felt bad, so for the next few days we always tipped a bit more....then we found out that yes, they DID get the auto tip...so I think that server was trying to pull a fast one on us!:mad:

Yes! This! I was a dealer for 5 years (on land) we made minimum wage or below and the tips made it worth the while. I dont have control over what you get but especially in poker, i kept the game moving, did a lot of math and kept the personalities of my players at bay. That being said you are dealing with folks' money while they have (often) been drinking. Ive been called every name in the book, had drinks poured on me, people fall on the table, vomit, urinate, propsition me for adult activities, throw punches over my head and in one memorable occasion actively be arrested, ask to finish the hand he was on and be permitted to do so, while in handcuffs.

No, most here are not that type of player but i assure you. Dealers more than earn it, youll never notice how good one is because the attention to detail is silent, be sure to tip them because the ones you will notice are awful
