The OP really needs to be more specific on what constitutes "slop". For mass feedings, which is what a cruise ship does, and considering they don't have access to markets or deliveries on a daily basis, one must expect some items to not be "fresh". Scrambled eggs are often from a powdered product, or a product that comes as a liquid in a bag, that is then beaten in order to scramble the eggs inside. Bread should be fresh baked daily, but maybe not always. A lot of items, like meat, are almost certainly going to be frozen. Are they using nice salad fixings, like a mesclun mix or arugula, or cheap iceberg that keeps forever? Are fruits and vegetables starting to go bad? And don't forget, food is subjective. We are on the Silhouette next month, and I do hope the food is good. We are foodies, husband is a chef, and on our one previous Celebrity cruise, we thought the food was wonderful, except for some really tough fish I had, which was quickly and happily replaced with another dish. I'm not expecting 4 or 5 star gourmet on a mass market cruise.

Wow what a discriptive review of food. We were on Silly in April. Ate in both the MDR and buffet. Not every item was perfect. But if we didnt like it we didnt get it again. I thought most of the items were well prepared.

The staff that waited on us in the main dining room were stellar.

We had the prime rib (beef) and we knew it was going to be thin just asked for a thicker cut and it was fine. Good flavor and tender. I guess we were satisfied with pretty much everything they had. Portions are small but just ask for more. Id say you need to go up to a higher level cruise line to satisfy your food needs. You can get bad food on a cruise ship. We havent found that yet. One thing Id like to see is if they do a themed buffet and maybe I missed it but like mexican one day, itailian another, asian another, and so on and put it in the daily so you know what the theme is for the day. I know they have different food mixed throughout buffet.

They had themed buffets several (not all) nights on the Eclipse last summer.

Looking over the OP previous posts, he has complained about the food on RCCL's Grandeur AND the Allure, along with the food on the Celebrity Eclipse and now the Silhouette!

If one finds fault with pretty much every dining experience on pretty much every cruise ship they sail I have to ask why one continues to cruise as a vacation??!

Try something else which I'm sure you can afford since you feel the need to let everyone know you sail in suites and spend a lot of money in the casino.

Love the Silhouette and the food criticism is total absurd. Yes the MDR has cut portion sizes so you don't gain 15 lbs. Go up to the Buffett where you can get fish cooked to order. Go to the Lawn Club Grill which the finest interactive dining experience on the seas. Can't wait to get back on the Silhouette our favorite ship on our favorite cruise line.

All I can say is wow. The food is like slop. Very cheap ingredients. I'm actually at the point of being angry. This isn't the Celebrity I came like really like. This is a joke. Shore excursions also are pretty bad. Frankly I'd fire people over how things have gone. This company should be ashamed.

Sound to me like your the kind of person who isn,t happy with anything, anywhere you go.Nit picking at everything.Maybe you should stay home in your comfort zone where everything is perfect. Was on the Equinox in May and everything was fantastic.Enjoyed every minute of it.Life,s to short to nit pick at silly things and enjoy life to the fullest!!

Touche! Exactly what I was thinking.

Just came back from the silhoutte on the Baltic cruise. Found the food fantastic. Main dining, oceanview and quisine. I don't know how cruiser eats at home but it is luxury to my husband and myself. Please email directly if you have any questions about the food quality

I agree, smaller portions are only a problem if there isn't enough and you can't order more. I've yet to go hungry in a cruise ship.

If it helps to cut down on wasteage then that's a good thing (I don't care about Celebrity's profits) - even in the U.K. It saddens me to say many go hungry and rely on food banks and charity. I also have my own perculiar thing about not liking to see meat or fish thrown away unnecessarily.

i'm going to step in here and defend the original poster's comments about the poor food(and wont use the word CRAP) on Silhouette and provide several examples from our most recent trip in the Baltic in July. I won't comment on the poor waiter service (that is luck of the draw) - and don't get me started on the deportment of the other passengers, children running down the main walkway barely missing old people with walkers and waiters trying not to drop their heavy trays. Men wearing shorts, torn jeans and sandals - dress code not even attempted to be enforced.

1) Ocean View Cafe Buffet at breakfast, while the poached eggs were freshly poached, the hollandaise sauce was kept in a serving dish with no heat, it was COLD and when spooned onto my nicely freshly poached eggs made it almost inedibly cold. The waffles and pancakes were never fresh, had been sitting in the steam table staying warm - one expects to receive a freshly cooked crispy waffle.

2) unable to find anything on the ever-changing daily menu (after 5 days of disappointing food), I ordered the ever-present sirloin. WOW... so much gristle it was un-cuttable I finally got that half of the steak separated from the more tender section and got through it... would have sent it back, but didn't want to piss-off the waiter anymore than necessary.

3) Chocolate lava cake... JOKE ! ! ! I have eaten this on several other ships and get warm chocolate flowing from the freshly baked cake - yum. What I got in the MDR on Silhouette was a small chocolate mini-muffin with vanilla ice cream... really? We both laughed outloud when it was set in front of me.

4) Crepe Suzette my DW ordered this one evening - the crepe was tougher than a 4 day old tortilla. One could not even cut it with the knife !

5) Lawn Club grill (paid $40 EACH for this meal). Starting with the flatbread pizza, served as filler, good but not great. Salad was OK - expecting more salad ingredients other than lettuce and tomatoes. The steak was prepared exactly to order, but it was certainly not an $80 experience to get to watch the chef cook an above average steak.

6) not to be completely negative - on the up-side best meal on the ship was the hamburger at the Mast Grill next to the pool - fresh hot frozen hamburger.

7) another highlight was the "express breakfast" served in the main dining room on 3 particularly early days when the excursions left before 8am. You were excorted to a table and 6 waiters descended on you with coffee, a plate with scrambled eggs and bacon, toast, pastry and an orange juice - all served in 10-12 seconds. no substitutes - just a good quick breakfast before busy days. Much faster than wandering around the different stations and looking for a table at the Ocean View Cafe!

8) one evening they attempted German regional food service in the Ocean View Cafe. The sauerkraut was inedible - tasted bad! and I am not sure what kind of meat was in the next serving dish but YUCK ! AND the "pretzels" were overbaked - yes - overBAKED. not that hard y'all - for trained chef's ? street vendors do it, why can't you?

9) first time I ever got neapolitan icecream in a baked alaska !? also first time there was no fanfare with the waiters and chefs in the dining room. next to last evening, they kinda did a walk through... nothing much made of it so we could give our appreciation to the staff...

10) never got hors d'oeuvres in a bar before dinner, and you always had to ask for snack mix.

SO yes, food service was truely disappinting. We never got the "WOW" moment that we had on previous trips. We will think twice about another Celebrity booking

Glad to hear specifics. All food posts are highly subjective but your post was a very good note of your experience. At least Cruisin Kellly was specific. Unlike the original poster.

My take on the Lawn Club hamburger was for lunch and they billed it as the best. Well, how do they make that claim when you could not even order it medium rare. It was a decent hamburger. We expected better.

We will again be on the Silly in November and hope to have more favorable news re. our dining experience. We feel that the specialty restaurants are overpriced for what you get. Best part of the meal is the ambiance. Will revert in Nov.

I agree - the Express Breakfast is a great idea - executed excellently

Think the people who complain about small portions are the same people who one often sees in the Buffet with plates piled high. Walk past their table later and see discarded plates half full of waste.

I am hoping this is all subjective to his tastes. We are not picky eaters and will be on the Silhuouette for 19 days in Jan 2018. Would be disappointed to have slop for 19 days. Lol

I did not eat in the MDR so cannot comment on that but food in Luminae was excellent with food and service exceeding Seabourn levels according to all in our group most of whom regularly cruise on Seabourn. I found the buffet (for the few snacks and breakfasts we had there) consistent with previous cruises with service slightly better with the coffee and pastry trolleys, baskets passed around. Everyone is entitled to their opinion but I found the quality in the buffet to be excellent - if you make intelligent decisions what to get.
