Setting up a Sail & Sign account with cash, at the Port of Miami:

I'm not sure if all ports are the same; I am specifically wondering about the Port of Miami. I know that Sail & Sign accounts can be set up with cash, but I'm wondering how much cash is needed to set up a Sail & Sign account at the Port of Miami. Do the reps at the Port of Miami require you to put $200 cash onto your Sail & Sign account (this is for a 6 day cruise)? Has anyone recently boarded a cruise at the Port of Miami and set up their Sail & Sign account with cash and were you required to deposit $200 (for a 6+ day cruise) or could you deposit less than that?

Thank you.

I know that for a 6 day cruise carnival puts a hold on a credit or debit card for $200; however, their website states that for cash accounts carnival *recommends* a minimum of $200 for a 6 day cruise. The term recommends would lead me to believe that it is suggested, but not required. I've also read that a lot of people who decide to do cash accounts don't deposit the recommended amount; instead they deposit less. I'm just wondering if anyone has had any recent experience with setting up a cash sail & sign account at the Port of Miami and if they were allowed to deposit less than the recommended amount of cash.

we always use cash deposits and don't think we have ever been told a certain amount is required. You can always call Carnival to find out so you are prepared.

I did call Carnival a couple of times and I was told different things lol. It ended up just leaving me even more confused. I will have a gift card for $200 that I'll be adding to my account, once I'm on the ship and I will also set up my account with some cash. However, I don't plan on putting a debit or credit card on my account and I would hate to be told that I can't board the ship, because I need an additional cash deposit that I don't have.

Last time we cruised out of Miami they wouldn't let us put cash on S&S card at the check in. They told us we had to board the ship and do it at guest service. I was so mad. Have cruised from there 5x previously w\o boarding ship to do it what's the difference now? No answer could be given. Just they couldn't take my cash. So we boarded and went to guest services and they took our cash and set it up.

We have always set up a cash account & have never been told of a min or max amount. We usually put $500 on it and then add to it or go to guest services the last night of the cruise to get the unused cash refunded to us.

We primarily use it for drinks, speciality coffee drinks and my husband usually plays $100 or so at the casino.

That is fairly common at most ports now. Cash s handled by the passenger services onboard.
