My review and advice of the premium drink package on the INDY

Recommended Posts

We just got off the Indy on sunday. We had the premium drink packages. As others have mentioned there are no full drink menus to be found and prices are as high as you have heard. The drink packages were well worth it to us. We both averaged about 11 drinks a day at sea and about 8 when we had ports as well as many bottles of water. I printed off the master drink list from another poster's link and it was just a wonderful little drink bible to have. Not knowing names of fancy frozen and regular drinks can limit one's options and many of these contain the premium liquors. It seems that RC would like you to sip on cheap magaritas and basic pina colodas because that's all they advertise. If you have the master list they will make whatever you want only if you ask by name. We were getting drinks at the bar that had many many others asking "what is that?" and "where did you get that?" .... I told them from the master list and everyone wanted to see it as it was in my hand. My advice is to print out the three pages and have it readily available to you any time you want something special and/or more unique.

Again , we had the premium package which already included gratuity. I chose to bring 100 $1.00 bills with me. Each time I ordered drinks for my DW and kids drinks I would tip $1 ....every time. I didn't mind and I wanted to reward good service. It didn't take long for the bartenders to learn my name. We would receive quick attention at a crowded bar and I never had to sign a slip for anything. It was hit and go .... The best part, contrary to some postings, is that every single drink we got (mostly frozen) were STRONG. Not watered down but good and topped off with a shot. Was it because of the cash tips? Maybe? Probably .... I didn't see too many cash tips from anyone and most didn't add gratuity if they had packages. Do you have to? Certainly not. If you want to be known by name, get fast attention, and get good strong drinks tip a $1 each time if you have a package. Don't forget to print that master RC drink list and guard it with your life!

I went down to guest services and got them 20 at a time but did the same. My wife had the premium package and definitely got our money's worth. I had the select package and 75% certain I did not get my money's worth as there were several days I did not drink any beers. I say 75% because (a) RCCL cannot print a list of your drink purchases to audit (b) I don't know how much sodas were but I had plenty of those.

I also agree that the $1 bills seem to make a difference.

I was sitting at Schooner bar one evening and a guy came up to the bar beside me. He waited for awhile and even though my beer was 1/2 full the bartender asked if I wanted another (I did) and he brought it before taking that guy's order. I rarely signed a slip the entire cruise. (maybe 4 total) I seen others having to sign every time including people right next to me.

In the casino one day, the waiter was going off shift and brought me two beers on his way out without me asking. I said "two beers?, now I have to give you $2". He said "I know", smiled and left with his $2.

We were on the Serenade last month with the same issue with the menus. I had printed the same list off and took it with me. I just pulled it out and decided what I wanted. One bartender did not know one of the martinis I was asking for (can't remember the name but had butterscotch and chocolate). Another one of the bartender's came over to help and replied to the other one "Oh, she's got a list of the old menus". No problem, they made it, but they don't advertise the others.

We're on allure in two weeks and would happily take $1 bills if I could hold on any (we are from the uk)... I'm guessing they won't be interested in euros or sterling??!! Bit screwed on that front !!

We ordered some $1 bills from the Post Office before our last cruise! Worth taking some- the bartenders do appreciate it!

Thanks for the advice. I just printed a list of drinks for our group. It helps to see some choices other than my standard mudslide at the pool. I don't think I'll get the pkg for all nine days of the cruise, but thanks to CC I know I can add it on as long as there are at least 4 days left. ;)

If you order a drink over $10 on the premium drink package do they just charge your account for the difference or would it not be part of the package?

Thanks for the drink list.

The limit is now $12, and anything over that would be charged the difference.

Thanks. That list is going to come in handy for me, I never know what to request at the bar and usually end up with some mundane drink.

I love trying new drinks and now I'll know what to ask for "sans menus"

If those bourbon prices are accurate, they are really a pretty good deal.

Basil Hayden's at $7.75 is quite a bit cheaper, even at $9.15 including tip, than restaurants in Dallas, I think.
