We are taking a RCI cruise from Dubai and we are landing very early in the morning at the airport, maybe out of the airport as early as at 6-7 am. So we have the whole morning for some sightseeing and now wondering what to do. We are wondering should we leave our luggage at the airport, take a metro to the city and first have breakfast then do some sightseeing and take a metro back to get the luggage and then a taxi from the airport to the ship. Or something else? The Dubai mall has also valet for the luggage but it opens at 10 am? Where to go/what area for breakfast and wht to do that early in Dubai? Are the souks open early or at 10 am?

I would check my luggage at the airport and return for it later on the way to the ship. The easiest thing to do after that would be to take the Metro from the airport to Burj Khalifa/Dubai Mall station. There is an enclosed bridge from the metro station to the inside of Dubai Mall but it is still a 10-15 minute walk, though with a/c and moving walk-ways. To go to Burj Khalifa "At the Top" or the pedestrian bridge to Souk al Bahar go to the LG level.

"At the Top" experience at Burj Khalifa opens at 8 am. If you book your tickets ahead online it will be cheaper, however you should allow some wiggle room in case your flight is delayed, checking your luggage, buying your metro card etc.

If you decide to walk around the Dubai Mall/Burj Khalifa area or have breakfast first, here are some options:

Breakfast at Bakers and Spice in Souk al Bahar-they open at 8am

Coffee & pastry inside The Palace Hotel at the Al Bayt Lounge in the lobby open 24/7

Breakfast at Social House in Dubai Mall-they open at 9am and have outdoor seating to view the Burj and the lake (a lot of cafes will now be open in the mall as well though the stores open at 10)

Breakfast at Reem al Bawadi next to Burj Khalifa on Mohammed bin Rashid Blvd. A little trickier to walk to from the mall so look for one of the stair exits to the street on the metro link bridge before you enter the mall

There is plenty to do in this downtown area and if you are still there at 13:00 or 13:30 you can catch a fountain show. OR..........

From the airport take a taxi to the creek area in the old part of Dubai. Wander around and watch the dhow boats unload their goods, visit the Gold Souk and Spice Souk but they don't open until 9 or so (Deira side of creek) or ride the abra across the creek from Deira to Bur Dubai for Textile Souk. You could also arrange to have breakfast at The Sheik Mohammed Cultural Center at 10 am

OR.........

Breakfast Splurge

Take a taxi from the airport to Burj Al Arab (sail shaped hotel) and have breakfast at Sahn Eddar. They open at 8am. Advance reservations required (needed to get onto the property!) AED 350 pp but memorable:)

OR........

If you decide to visit the creek area instead of downtown, you can take the water ferry from the old part of Dubai to the Marina. Excellent opportunity to view the high rise architecture and get pics. There is a metro station near the marine station to get you back to the airport.......depending on the time, you could also get off beforehand at the Dubai Mall stop and check it out

Dubai is spread out and with traffic it will take you longer than you think it might.

Let me know if you have questions

Probably more information than you wanted:D

Have fun in the UAE & Oman
