Dubai-Musandam: They want a copy of my passport

My hotel's concierge has been arranging a day trip by car from Dubai to Musandam, Oman for me with a tour operator. This trip will happen in a few months.

I just got an email from the concierge, saying that the tour operator needs an emailed copy of my passport.

Does this sound fishy? Any concerns or considerations?

We have had to give passport info many times to private operators. Things like full name, country, passport # etc. I don't think it suspicious to ask for a copy, might help avoid confusion in relaying info. Many countries in both Europe and South America seem to require that guides have this info.

This is to speed up border crossings.

Tour operators can pre-fill in documents and forms for you.

Oman is not part of the UAE as I am sure you know, it seems the hotel concierge is offering a helpful service, as others have said to speed up your boarder crossing, have a great tirp.
