taxmantoo Posted September 28, 2016 #1 Share Posted September 28, 2016 Asked this question in the Port Section yesterday and received no replies. Anyone here have any ideas? ********************************************************* Considering cruise from Tampa on HAL. Have never been to Tampa before and am unaware of: 1) Tampa Cruise Port disembarkation process and Customs process for non U.S. citizens. 2) Availability of taxis at Tampa Cruise Port 3) Distance and time between port and airport 4) Tampa Airport and average check-in time needed. Considering all of the above, what is the earliest flight out suggested if we wish to leave the ship around 9 am ?
Tampa Girl Posted September 28, 2016 #2 Share Posted September 28, 2016 Taxis are readily available at the Port. Time to airport is about 15 minutes. Any delay in processing will, of course, depend on the time of day and the weather, but we have always sailed on through the line with very little delay. Perhaps just lucky. If you disembarked by 9:00, which is probably a little later than usual, you should be able to make an 11:00 flight, but everything would have to be operating smoothly. I always allow 2 hours to be on the safe side.

We like a leisurely breakfast in MDR to finish off the cruise without having to rush to the airport.
MCC retired Posted September 28, 2016 #4 Share Posted September 28, 2016 The Tampa cruise terminal area , known as Channelside is beginning a large redevelopment this week rebuilding the area roadways and eventually new hotels, offices, apartments ,parks , etc. to be completed during the next few years. Although transport to the airport (7 miles) is usually sooooo easy now , there could be detours depending on when you are cruising . On top of that TPA is currently undergoing lots of construction to the main terminal area and adding a people mover to the Economy Parking garages. Hope they still have a flat rate like we had a couple of years ago.
Homosassa Posted September 28, 2016 #6 Share Posted September 28, 2016 Tampa Airport recommends that one arrives at the airport a minimum of ninety minutes before the scheduled departure of your flight. However, depending when one is flying, it can take much longer to check in and clear security.

jabcruiser Posted September 28, 2016 #8 Share Posted September 28, 2016 Love Tampa port and airport. So easy generally, but didn't know about construction delays now. We have always sailed through customs, but are US citizens. Have traveled a lot from TPA and security lines always fast except one time. But even then less than 20 minutes I believe. Port to airport fast via taxi or transfer van generally. Jane
