Spending Money

tough question !

First cruise aboard the celebration on a 7 day cruise around the Caribbean .

Not intending doing any organised excursions ,will use taxis to local beaches and have a wander .

May visit the speciality restaurant probably no more than twice .

Got a drinks package .

Was thinking around $500

The cost of the speciality restaurant will be added to your onboard account

$500 for two people for a week - that's over $30 each per day If you are going to do a lot of shopping maybe but we usually take that for a 2 week cruise only for taxis, beach costs and drinks and sometimes a lunch You should have plenty. Most taxis are small mini busses and are shared with other passengers but will cost more if only two of you.

St Maarten if you're going is a duty free island we don't buy alcohol on the ship unless there is a special deal day

Depends what you drink Alcohol is available in all the ports we always buy rum in Barbados - Mountgay but you can get rum everywhere I buy vodka or gin We transfer it into a plastic bottles which we take with us and bring home in our suitcases Don't buy perfume sorry can't help with that

If you run out of cash, you can get some on board, however the rates are poor. We decided to get some extra dollars from a bank and they advised we could only get Eastern Caribbean Dollars from an ATM. We got some of these but made sure we only got what we needed Best to take a few extra so that you are covered. The taxi/mini buses tend to charge $20 to $25 for a few hours trip and are usually excellent.

Best to take more than you need.

We had to get US Dollars from a bank on one island which used Carib dollars, can't recall which - meant changing Sterling into the local currency, then a second exchange of that into greenbacks.

They also insisted on two official forms of ID - so have your passport and driving licence to hand, just in case you need to visit a bank.

Also - take small denomination bills, 1s, 5s and 10s are best in my experience.
