Dominica

Feel so sorry for the people of Dominica in the aftermath of the Category 5 which has hit in the last few hours. They are a poor country and they were probably not as well prepared as some of the richer islands that have been affected by the recent hurricanes. I guess that they will lose their cruise business for a few months and that will be a bitter blow to them. We will certainly donate when a fund is set up to help them recover - it may be a long time before they are ready to receive cruise ships again.

In 2015 we visited Dominica 6-9 months after Hurricane Erica, which was far less severe and the devastation everywhere was still very evident. We wanted to visit the cathedral in Roseau and couldn't because it was all shut off, being unsafe. Goodness knows how they will cope with Maria. Our prayers are with all the people of the islands who are having the most awful time.
