I second the recommendation to post this on the River Cruise Board but I would add a description of how you define 'fun'. Also make sure you consult the stickies on the top of that Board's thread page, especially if you have never been on a river cruise before. They are very different from ocean cruises and having read the River Cruise Board since before our first river cruise two years ago I know that people either love or hate them. We're in the 'love' category but not everyone is.

Since you have not defined any selection parameters at all, any answer that you get will be totally meaningless. It is the equivalent of going onto a car site and posting "I want to buy a car - which one is best".

I am traveling with a friend in October 2018. 8 day River Cruise from Amsterdam to Switzerland. So many cruise lines to chose from. Any suggestions for single ladies over 55?

I personally think you have to be careful with autumn river cruises. Ships can sometimes not traverse the entire journey due to low river levels and you end up on a bus instead, generally to the next navigable port where they have another ship waiting to take you the rest of the way. That kind of thing happening in September/October can be common after a long, hot summer.

I think your best bet is in the late spring to ensure a full cruise on the same ship. Not early spring mind you, because then you might find river levels are too high for ships to pass under some bridges and you'll end up in the same boat. Or, rather, a different boat. :)
