Live from the Oasis--Woman Threatens to Kill Security Guards and Family in MDR

Main Seating: Obviously inebriated woman sitting in MDR at early seating began throwing silverware and yelling at family seated at adjacent table. F-bombs being screamed and the woman yells at the waitstaff that she's an executive with Intel and has two suites on the ship. Waitstaff attempts to contain her at which time she begins screaming that she will kill them and her family members if they don't leave her alone. Waitstaff begins scurrying to collect knives and silverware from all the tables in the area. Security takes a very long time to arrive and seems more concerned with trying to placate the screaming woman than they are with removing her from the dining room. Woman is led away screaming and security is overheard saying she will be turned over to the Sherriff's Deputies upon arrival in FLL in the morning. Guessing she's spending the night in the pokey.

Entire incident caused me to question the efficiency of security on the Oasis.

Where was the inefficiency?

What was she so mad about? Were they trying to turn her away for wearing shorts? Or were her neighbors wearing shorts and offending her? Lol.

I'm sure it seemed like security was slow, but I bet they were on top of it and just trying to see if the lady chilled out so they didn't have to detain her and make a worse scene. Although I guess they shouldn't have let her continue to throw silverware if that's what she was doing. She must have had a really bad day, what a bummer way to end a vacation.

Would have been the first time Royal EVER turned a woman away in shorts. That plus unlimited drinks in the suite lounge you get the next installment of 'Intel Execs Gonewild - High Seas Edition'

From watching strange things unfold once too many times on a ship, if there is no actual fight to break up, the first thing security tries to do is calm the person and the situation down. Then they will do the escort away as necessary.

Wow, really? Seems to me they did their job.

As an aside, that would have been very unsettling to witness. The poor family who has to deal with her. :(

Isn't that an awkward end to the night. I wonder if they had some family portrait pictures taken afterwards, in the brig. I can invasion their 2016 Christmas card now in my mind. :p:D

Edit: I know I should not joke, especially after having a friend going through a drinking problem.

It's called de-escalation and it's SOP in most situations.

+1

I've seen it done on a Qantas A380 headed to LAX:

. cabin staff knelt down and looked up at irate noisy business class passenger and calmly asked him if he could keep the noise down as people were trying to sleep.

. pax continued to get louder and louder (DYKWIA)

. more and more senior cabin staff knelt at his feet and looked up at him (submissive position/actions)

. eventually chief purser gave an ultimatum and he settled down.

What he didn't see were the air marshals in each aisle next to my seat waiting to see whether he was going to stop. They were deliberately outside his line of sight. (Their presence initially gave me a bit of a fright!)

Once he had calmed down they 'melted away' back to somewhere in the plane.

Unable to ascertain exactly what happened as not there but it appears that de-escalation was what security was trying to attempt to use. Imagine the uproar if security physically tried removing an inebriated woman without trying to talk her down first ... there'd be cell phone videos of the incident appearing all over the Internet.

Oh don't get me wrong. I totally agree with the procedure.

Sorry ... your quote was to indicate that security properly used de-escalation as the first technique in handling that situation and in others that you have witnessed.

Watching a situation unfold is understandably uncomfortable for the OP, especially if someone is uttering threats and throwing potentially harmful objects. But security/law enforcement personnel who are properly trained are guided by the tenants of appropriate use of force. It goes to show the difficulties that security/law enforcement personnel face nowadays when they deal with adverse situations.

I wish I'd been there....not because I really wanted to see it, or would have done anything differently...just because that would mean I was currently on Oasis. :D

You have love to the DYKWIA crowd! New thread: "Best Answers to the Question: Don't You Know Who I Am?"

1.) I don't now, but the whole world will as soon as I post this video of you making an a$$ of yourself.

2.) I'm sure you're famous in your village, but this particular location has more than one idiot.

3.) The woman who's about to be fired for the black eye you just gave the company.

4.) Someone who obviously needs a new publicist.

5.) No, but I'm hoping you earn enough for bail money.

The family should have a photo of her in the Brig, so they can remember their cruise! Good Idea! Smile!

What is happening with people at the moment

Just read this on a recent report in the reviews section for Independence on this board.... alcohol is more than likely the cause :(

we saw some of the most despicable behaviour with fighting, shouting, swearing, threatening behaviour being quite common - as previous reviewers have stated around 70 passengers were removed from the ship during the cruise. It took six crew members to restrain one passenger (who to be fair was built). Many crew who we spoke to commented that they have never known anything like it!

It's a fact that some people handle alcohol better than others. With so many getting the "unlimited" drink package (though servers can refuse to serve those who appear impaired) AND the free drinks in the concierge lounge, more and more people drink to excess to "get their money's worth" from the beverage package. You see it at all inclusive resorts, too. It's just a sad situation for all involved. I wonder if she had children with her. I rarely drink, but my father is an alcoholic (now sober), and I vividly remember a restaurant dinner on my birthday (age 10) where he was very impaired and started a screaming fight with my mom and neighboring table. Nice birthday (sarcasm intended), and an awful experience I will never forget.

Thanks for sharing. I am sure it took some courage. We children of alcoholics carry a lot of baggage into our adult lives. I can only hope that she did not have children with her at the table.
