Mariner rewards and benefits reciprocal scheme with other Carnival cruise lines.

our travel agent lead us to believe that as we have cruised many times with Cunard, royal Caribbean, celebrity and princess we would not start on the lowest tier with HAL for our first cruise in Alaska. However having registered following our booking for next year there was no where to enter our membership numbers for the other cruise lines.

Does anyone know if HAL does have a reciprocal loyalty scheme with other carnival cruise lines.

With the prior cruises on Cunard and Princess you start as a HAL 1-star, which otherwise would come after completion of your first on HAL. If that status doesn't show on your booking, email the Mariner Society with some specifics about either a Princess or a Cunard cruise you've taken.

I talked to more than one rep about getting Mariner credit if I booked a Seabourn cruise and was told they were all independent programs. You would think there would be reciprocity similar to "partner" airline deals ,but it doesn't seem to be the case. The lines of Carnival will cut each others throats for a passenger. Their execs don't get paid for helping out the other lines.

I tell anyone who will listen to develop a relationship with a HAL Personal Cruise Consultant. They are a great source of information. They're not commissioned, will help you anyway they can, and if you want, you can book a trip with them and then have it transferred to your TA without penalty to you or the TA. If my guy doesn't know something, he'll either put me on hold and find out or get back to me straight away. I've not been steered wrong yet.

As others have said, if you have sailed with Cunard, Princess, or any other affiliated lines you start as a 1-star mariner with no days. To the best of my knowledge that is the only reciprocity among Carnival group lines. The benefits are not great but you get an embarkation lunch in the dining room and a luncheon where pretty tiles are given out. A cruise on Carnival gets a HAL first timer more than it gets a second timer on Carnival.

As far as I know HAL is the only line to give anything to bottom tier members of partner programs. Royal's program gives no reciprocity until a cruiser reaches Celebrity Select or Royal Platinum.

I had to e-mail the Mariner program and give them my Cunard World Club number. They e-mailed me my Mariner number and when I logged in, it showed I was a one-star mariner with no days. I was invited to a Mariner lunch but did not receive a tile:(.

The tiles are usually given out at the Brunch. You could call or e-mail Mariners Society and they might mail you one. Others have said they received a missed tile that way.

I'm curious as to why you did not get a tile. They have never asked for id and just passed them out to everyone when I have attended. I believe others have indicated sometimes the tiles are on a table and have to be picked up.

Could someone with more experience weigh in on this?

The head of the mariner society was on a cruise I was on once and at the Q&A session, this question was asked. His comment was that they were 'looking into this' but that it was very complicated as the programs were so different. That was almost 2 years ago so not holding my breath.....

There are any number of reasons they didn't get their tile but we've read here many times that simply contacting Mariner's Society was sufficient to get a tile mailed to them.

Mariner's Department is one of the best managed and conducted at HAL, IMO.

Gerald Bernhoft is a wonderful Mariners Society Director, as was Margaret Binnendyk ahead of him, but I would not expect the repeaters societies for all the Carnival Family to be merged any time soon.......

But who knows? :D Maybe we'll be surprised. :)

We were on the same cruise as Scrapnana and at our Mariner's Lunch (there were several), the tiles were given out at the door. I had left too soon to prepare for a roll call activity and did not receive a tile. I mentioned it and was given a tile immediately.

On other cruises I have been on, they are on the table.

I have also seen them passed out at the tables by one the stewards.

On the table has been the majority of the experience, but it can certainly vary.

Scrapnana may have left before they were being passed out as I did or the ship may have run out of tiles as well. I've seen that happen and it happened to us one cruise. I simply called the Mariner's Society and they sent two (one for each of us) to our home.

Your TA needs a refresher course in all things HAL/Carnival Family of Ships.

She provided you incorrect information.

I agree with Sail!!!

When we started with HAL we had sailed with WindStar which way back when they were part of HAL'S family.

On our first HAL sailing we came on board already a 1 STAR when we booked through HAL.

I believe a lot of TA's need to go to HAL 101 course to give right on info to new cruisers.

I just spoke with the Mariner Society regarding reciprocity between lines and and was told the following:

1. First time HAL cruisers with a history aboard other Carnival Corp lines will be accorded 1-Star status aboard HAL.

2. At present, cruising other Carnival Corp lines will not accrue cruise-day credits toward raising your HAL Mariner Society Star level, although that could change. I think Corporate is pondering the change.

I also asked about discounted fares, HAL casino promos etc. affecting cruise-day accrual and was told that any discounted or promotional fare is considered a "published fare". As another HAL cruiser mentioned, the exception are Travel Professional and Inter-line fares which are not considered published fares.

Good you confirmed you were given correct information here.

Thanks for verifying for us.

I had other questions for them as well, but didn't think a confirmation of previously provided info would hurt. I knew I had been previously told that only HAL cruise days count toward increasing your HAL Mariner Star level when I asked about a Seabourn cruise, but I hadn't thought about getting One-Star treatment if you had previously cruised on another Carnival Corp line...probably because the One-Star level benefits are so lame.

One other thing I verified was regarding the one cruise-day credit for every $300 spent on board. I questioned whether drink purchases paid by the beverage cards that are part of Explore 4 are counted towards the $300 and was pleasantly surprised to get an affirmative reply.

I think you got bad information from Seattle. Not surprising. If you are not paying for drinks I don't know how you would get credit for them.
