Whale watching on Coral Princess

Hello, heading to Alaska in July on the Coral - and my question is if there is a "crows nest" type of lounge at the front of the ship for whale watching if the weather is poor? Is there any place at the front of the ship for spotting whales? What about at the back?

Looking for the best whale sighting locations, thanks!

IMO, there's no "best place," since watching whales, which are usually submerged, from a big, fast-moving cruise ship is iffy. While you're starboard, you could hear that one's been spotted port side, and by the time you run over there it probably will be underwater or a mile away. Even sailing through the Sea of Cortez at the height of whale season, I never saw one from the ship, though others did. (But on a dedicated whale watch, on a small boat that could follow the whales, we saw a bunch.) And if "bad weather" means rain or rough seas, your chances of actually seeing anything are slimmer.

Any place onboard where you can scan a good portion of the horizon for spouts would be good, and quality binoculars wouldn't hurt, but in the end, it's a matter of luck. If seeing whales is a priority, booking a whale watch is the way to go.

The Promenade deck.........

Yes there are forward and aft viewing areas on several decks Baja/Caribe/Dolphin are great places to watch for whales. Just walk all the way forward or aft and out the doors. We saw whales from many places during our cruises on the Coral. :)

The HC is forward but would be a poor place to try and see whales from and the windows are not always clean.

Your best bet is to be somewhere with mobility. It was quite amusing, we had some whales playing with the ship in AK and popping up on either side. The naturalist kept announcing it and you could feel the ship shift as the pax did wind sprints from one side to the other.

The forward bow off the Baja deck is the best place for scenic cruising. Last week on Corsl the naturalist hung out there a lot and helped passengers spot wild life.

Viewing behind a window is not great. I'm not a fan of Crows nest viewing on other ships.

Seeing whales from the ship is per chance occurance. The very best way to see them is to stay out on deck and keep moving around. Unfortunately when you think you see one and get the binoculars or camera on it its sounded and at best you sure looking at a tail. You may however see some Orcas at Robson Bight on the northern part Vancouver Island. At this precise moment I am watching the Coral going by our living room window...she looks beautiful.
