Geiranger to Dalsniba - walking ????

I feel a bit stupid even asking this question but is it feasible to go up to the top on foot.

My map says that it's 2.5 miles on the road but I wondered if there was a path that might cut off some of the twists and turns. The app says that it takes just over an hour, but the surface of my iPad is flat, so I am assuming that it takes several times as long in real life.

And it there any public transport to get back down or would I have to walk back as well.

I went to Dalsnibba in May. It's way more than 2.5 miles away from Geiranger. According to the official website Dalsnibba is 21km away from Geiranger which is just over 13 miles. I seem to remember it being pretty high - it would not be a fun walk even if there was a more direct route which I suspect there is not.

Although we did not go to Dalsnibba, I noticed this tour (or one like it) available at the tourist office. It was considerably cheaper than the excursion booked through Cunard.

That site has a link to an even cheaper bus trip: NOK 220.
