Norwegian, Oceania & Regent Cruise Lines Offer Joint Casino Rewards Program

While NCL may find my response negative, I truly do not care. VERY few Regent customers use their very small casino and I resent that anything that NCL customers "earn" in the casino has anything to do with Regent. Whomever made this decision should be forced to spend 1,000 nights on NCL before they can step foot on a Regent ship (JMHO):mad: :mad: :mad: :mad: :mad: :mad:

This program has 5 tiers.

Players in the top 3 can earn cruise fare discounts on Oceania and Regent.

I should add I think this is a very smart policy. It enhances loyalty to the corporate product and promotes upselling.

I have friends that only cruise NCL and have never paid for a cruise because of the casino perk. They will probably be thrilled - they like NCL and I am sure they will like Regent and Oceania. Well traveled, very social, fun and well educated.

This is a most interesting development and might allow some of the high rollers on NCL to try out Regent and Oceania, or vice versa. It is quite useful that the casino points will be transferable from ship to ship.

Perhaps this is a toe in the ocean water, testing the notion of combining certain benefits among the three lines. Could this be a precursor to some sort of joint loyalty program? That would be quite an exciting change, although it might be difficult to implement if the three lines base their current loyalty programs on different metrics.

I'm not so sure that they will like Regent or Oceania with their tiny casino's and small ships. Luxury cruising isn't for everyone - some people find it boring - little to do -- nothing exciting going on around the ship, etc. Somehow I don't see high rollers sitting at bingo, baggo or trivia having a great time. I would think it would be the other way around...... Regent or Oceania passengers could get a kick out of sailing on a huge ship - tons of shops - many restaurants, etc.

IMO, it is not about being "very social, fun and well educated" but rather about age and what level of fun they are seeking on a ship.

Unless the plan has changed, when Regent was purchased, NCL was the entry level cruise line and it was hoped that eventually NCL passengers would give Oceania a try. The last step was the luxury brand - Regent.

While I do not know anything about NCL's loyalty program, I am slightly familiar with Oceania's. They do not calculate their benefits based on single nights as Regent does. And, how do you equate 50 nights on NCL with 50 nights on Oceania, etc.?

For me, that would be great with all my Oceania and Regent Nights. I have multiple friends who gamble on both Regent and Oceania. There has been no Casino Loyalty Program on those ships.

Maybe my brain isn't functioning while aboard the ship but I seriously have no clue what speaking Russian or being an attorney has anything to do with anything.

We have five seas days in a row and the casino is empty. Perhaps they is "action" only on certain sailings. I am not much of a gambler but do enjoy slot machines The slots on Regent ships are boring (JMO).

Crystal has a high rollers room and they will in the near future have player cards for those who want to gamble and will be rated. The Asians do love to gamble and have fun and so do I. I certainly don't think it is a bad idea and Regent can make a lot of money. Nobody is forcing you to gamble or walk through the Casino.

For many Regent passengers this is totally irrelevant. I have over 50 days on Regent, both Navigator and Mariner. Apart from where you have to walk through the casino area on the Navigator; do not use like most passengers. I will spend my money on another cruise, rather than waste it, on gambling. On the Navigator especially the space could be used much better as the piano bar and coffee connection are very cramped and into a corridor area. The casino where we saw it going to and from the theatre was very under utilized,, the shop small and the gambling machines with the exception of a couple of people who were always there very under used.

On one Regent cruise, we met a couple that lived near us. We met them in the Bridge lessons but the husband and I had met at the Blackjack table the same night and found that we were in the same area. That was 12 years ago and we've played Bridge at least weekly since and become good friends. The husband and I played in the Casino on Crystal earlier this year and had a great experience as they opened a table for us. Much more action but bigger passenger load - same demographic really.

I won't sail on a ship with no casino. Viking Ocean does not have a casino. Even the little Paul Gauguin had a casino.

I'm on the other end - having a casino makes no difference to me. Not a gambler. In fact, I'd be fine if they took Navigator's casino and converted it to a Connoisseur Club.

If one has enough money to sail a luxury line and gamble what difference does it make where they hail from. Do you want these lines to become a private club? Casinos on all ship generate good revenue or they would not have them. Does an NCL guest on Regent look any different than a Regent guest? Most of us all started cruising on mass market lines and moved up to luxury lines. Don't forget your humble beginnings.

No your not...I started on Royal Viking Star and Sea....

I think gambling at sea started back in the 20-30's when they put gambling ships off the coasts in NY FL and CA and this just carried over today... Of note while all the casinos in the US are under regulated rules and authority.....the casinos at sea are not as I remember... they are total loose canons if they want...

I find it interesting that to start getting any "Stateroom Discounts" on Regent, you need to have 15,000 points in a one year period (April 1- March 31 as all points re-set at zero on each April 1st.)

That means to get a room discount, you must spend $75,000 if you are gambling on a video or reel slot machine, or $150,000 if you play video poker.

No exact details on table games, just:" Points are based on average bet, session play or hands played and game type".

Nope, but I wish it was still an option - I love shooting clays, and being on a ship would make it a whole new challenge.

I don't smoke or use the Connoisseur Club but it has just as much space as the Casino. Ships are meant to have a variety of activities to cater to a multitude of guests.

On Navigator there is no Connoisseur Club and the one on Explorer is smaller than the casino. No one is suggesting that the casino be removed - simply saying that there is little interest in it on the sailings we have been on (and one would think that this crossing would be the perfect one to hang out in the Casino). Last night, the Explorer Lounge (next to CR) was overflowing - drinks were being served outside of the lounge and CR....... the casino was pretty empty (across from the lounge).

P.S. It is interesting to note that the new Silver Muse (Silversea) reportedly has no casino!
