smallshiprider Posted July 18, 2016 #1 Share Posted July 18, 2016 We are taking this cruise on July 22nd. Could anyone who has done one of the previous around-Iceland cruises advise if the waters were especially rough or were they OK? Thanks for any help. ridethetide Posted July 18, 2016 #2 Share Posted July 18, 2016 The seas around Iceland are unpredictable. They can be dead calm one moment and over 14 feet the next. I suggest that you come prepared with scopolamine patches. They served my husband and me well. We were not the least bit queasy when the seas got rough. gnld Posted July 20, 2016 #3 Share Posted July 20, 2016 We just disembarked the Star Legend in Reykjavik 7/15. We had relatively calm waters during our circumnavigation. Some felt part of one day was a bit rough, but I didn't think so. My wife has a bit of "motion of the ocean" problem, and she was just fine - no medications ever needed on the cruise. Remember, you never are too far off the coast!
smallshiprider Posted July 20, 2016 Author #4 Share Posted July 20, 2016 I thought that may be the case - that you are not out in the middle of the Atlantic Ocean but should be fairly close to land most of the way. We are flying to Reykjavik this evening and I was happy to see your reply.
Pudgesmom Posted July 21, 2016 #5 Share Posted July 21, 2016 Have a wonderful trip! We'll be boarding as you leave for the return trip through Norway and ending in Ireland. I'm about to bust with excitement. We're big Windsurf fans and hoping the Star Legend will be great as well.
milepig Posted July 21, 2016 #6 Share Posted July 21, 2016 We're doing this next summer and I'm very much looking forward to posts related to the various ports, etc. What excursions were good.
sb44 Posted August 6, 2016 #7 Share Posted August 6, 2016 (edited) What date are your going next summer? We're looking at Iceland but want to combine with Northern Europe. I have a friend who was just there on Oceania and sent back extraordinary photos. knitpurple39 Posted March 11, 2017 #8 Share Posted March 11, 2017 Are there things to do at the ports if one does not do the official excursions?
Mimi0810 Posted March 23, 2017 #9 Share Posted March 23, 2017 Many, if not all of the ports except Reykjavik, are very small towns. The shore excursions take you quite a ways from the port to see the island. There are some small shops with in some of the towns. Iceland with Windstar was a great experience!
