A quick review of the Star 20th August 2017

There were 5 of us (2 adults and 3 kids aged 14,10 & 10) in a SJ family suite.

Ports of call:

Kotor, Corfu, Santorini, Mykonos and Dubrovnik.

We all enjoyed the ship with only minor niggles.

Pros

Favourite place Bier Garten Melvin the bar man was fantastic and open to 11pm+ everyday

Loved the 5 o'clock somewhere bar the ability to sit outside a major bonus.

Suite dining in Modernos was great for breakfast though the garden cafe was not bad either.

Tepenyaki was brilliant as usual however on two cooking stations side by side detracted a little.

Cons

Rude, arrogant and badly behaved passengers. There was a few guests who lived up to cultural stereotypes:

German guest who was rude and abusive to the barman in the bier garten. It was so bad several of us up there commented to the guest about his attitude.

Several Italian families who allowed their children to run wild spoiling poolside fun for everyone else until NCL sent up security, the parents were actually encouraging the kids to break the pools rules.

Italians and some other Europeans total inability to queue for food or drink  and off the ship waiting for buses and the cable car in Santorini.

Chair hogging. Whilst by the pool we watched a family take five sundbeds on each side of the pool as well as a table for five behind one set of sunbeds and there was only 3 of them and a baby in a pram. When the baby started crying in it's pushchair they moved it about 3 sunbeds down and they left it next to other people to cry it's little heart out.

I know it's wrong to generalise but we found the English speaking nations to be fun, friendly, courteous and polite the non English speaking nations not so much.

Star vs Dawn comparrison

Preferred the lay out of the pool deck on the Dawn comfy seating and without the useless slides everyone got stuck halfway down lol:D There were more loungers around the pool on the Dawn. The kids pool area at the back we found to be set out better on the Dawn

Loved the Star bier garten being open in the evening and 5 o'clock somewhere bar was always busy unlike the wine bar on the Dawn.

The garden cafe felt more open on the Star than the Dawn with the screens near the food stations.

Did not like having to walk through the garden cafe on the Star to get to the kids club however the eldest loved having Entourage next to the food.

Overall we really enjoyed our cruise on NCL.

Any questions just ask.

Thanks for the review. Did you use the Murphy bed or sofa bed? If so, were they comfortable?

Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

Used both the Murphy bed and sofa bed.

Sofa bed was more comfortable but slightly narrower with metal rails either side and the quilt was smaller.

The Murphy bed had a support bar along the middle but was fine if you had your hips either above or below the bar.

The kids had no problem with either bed.

We had the Murphy bed down all day and put the sofa bed away as the area in front of the Murphy bed is pretty much dead space.

What games were at Casino ?i like penny machines ...do you remember any?

Sorry did not notice and the few times we went through when the casino was open the place was very quiet with very little atmosphere so we did not stay long.

Hello there, did you do any of the port excursions, if so which were your favourites? Thanks

Sorry we did not do any official port excursions just diy as we have done the ports before.

Kotor walked off the ship and spent about 4hrs walking round the town having a beer and soaking in the atmosphere.

Corfu caught the bus into town walk through the streets to get to Liston square caught the land train for a little tour I didn't think it was worth it but the kids enjoyed it. Then we walked along the seafront road back to the old town square and caught the locals bus back to the ship.

Santorini ferry to Oia about 2 hrs there then a bus back to Fira and walked the 588 steps back down to the tender port.

Mykonos spent about 4 hrs wandering round the town enjoying the sights having food and a few drinks

Dubrovnik we did not get off due to limited time and having done the port before.

Very easy to diy these ports if there is nothing specific you want to see/do
