Formula 1 race(preferrably Monaco Grand Prix), any cruise options??

Hi,

Big Formula 1 fan and I live in the U.S. so there's not much options as far as attending an F1 even except for Canada Grand Prix in Montreal and maybe next year in Austin Texas, and you can bet that I'll be going to that. But I'd love to see the Monaco Grand Prix but it's prabably the most expensive grand prix to attend. are there any regular cruise lines that can make my dream come true? If not, I'm open to other F1 races as well...

thanks!

Hi- we are F1 fans too, but these days watch on tv!

I have found a couple of sites that may help- you are a bit late for this year so assume you are thinking of 2012!

The only thing to be aware of is that cruise ships are at the mercy of the sea- now it's mainly calm in summer but you do get the odd storm, and it would be awful if that caused you to miss the GP port after spending all that money.

This site is good if you have a list of the GP dates, you can look at each port page and see if anything is calling on the race or practice day-

This one is advertised for monaco

and this one shows ships booked in monaco port on specific dates

good luck,

kate

oops- must be a competitor, the site is i g l u cruise without the spaces- you can google it! cruise line was azamara

thanks for the info and much appreciated! yes, I'm talkin about 2012 or beyond. Monaco 2011 is for sure too late as it's this weekend... noted on the potential weather issues, but I don't think I can afford a land vacation for 2 to Manaco GP! it's just too much and don't think I can convince my wife as she does not care for racing. Thus, the cruise idea. Monaco GP is one of those things I want to do in my life time. hopefully one day... ;)

Bonjour!

Currently, there are following ships in the Bay of Monaco: The "Silver Spirit" and the "Windsurf", which stayed both for two days Saturday and Sunday and the "Star Flyer", which is in for Sunday only.

All three ships offer special F-1 day programs, as far as I know, and I am sure, they will continue to do so in 2012.

However, it is no problem to tender into town and get tickets on your own; also in advance via internet (e.g. Automobile Club Monaco http://www.acm.mc). Please refer to my previous postings.

If the weather should not permit tendering to Fontvieille, usually all ships go to the sheltered Bay of Villefranche and you can take the bus or train from there, if not taking the ship's excursion to be on the safe side.

Hope you wil make it one day : It is really exiting!

Sunny greetings from incredibly noisy Monaco.:)

Thanks for the info! I looked into those suggestions you gave but they all seem to cost just as much as a land vaca if not more which I can't afford. :( are there any mass market cruise options, for example, RCI, NCL or similar? Maybe the ship docks at Cannes and bus over to Monte Carlo for the race or maybe an excursion? But i've also heard during race weekend, the city comes to a hault(just like singapore GP, another one I really want to go). So perhaps public trans is almost non existent? Maybe I just need to save up and do a land vaca...

We have a cruise leaving in May of next year, and it seems that we could do a pre-cruise stop and fly into Nice for several days before making our way to our cruise. That is always an option... and I think a better one if you can afford to take a few more days off.

Our cruise leaves Venice on the 18th of May. This means if I really want to see the GP I will need to add a week before our cruise. I'm trying to decide if this is how I want to spend the week before the cruise because we were going to do something after the cruise and if we do this we won't be able to do the other plan:o Decisions decisions!

Does anyone know how early you can buy tickets to the GP and how all of it works?

I was on the Silver Spirit cruise for the Monaco Grand Prix and can confirm that Silversea have a cruise scheduled again for 2012. We arrived on Saturday morning at 8 am and the ship was scheduled to depart Monaco at 11pm on Sunday. This was changed before we arrived though and the ship actually left at 1am Monday morning giving everyone a chance to experience the night life and casino etc.

Transport in Monaco was somewhat restricted during the weekend but with limited bus services everyone seemed to get around fine. The local buses, which were free for the weekend, were running to an alternate timetable but we found no problem getting around. The railway station had services operating to Nice and beyond, and to Ventimiglia (sp??) in Italy in the other direction. There were also plenty of buses going out to Nice.

The GP itself was an amazing experience - and I am not a motor racing fan - highly recommended.

Great see these posts about F1 racing. I covered the F1 races at Watkins Glen many years ago for a magazine. Now I am involved in the Baltimore Grand Prix Indy Izod race that ran for the first time through the streets of the inner harbor last year and will run again this year, The drivers and teams loved the event and 160,000 people came for a great weekend of endurance racing also.

We had 10 years of Formula 1 races held about five minutes from our office. Man they are noisy - we had to close the office when the practice races were on. Monaco GP looks amazing, but the problem is unless the guy on poll position crashes, the streets are so narrow that they will win. Go Mark Webber!:D
