Bringing Fruit on board

we are taking the San Francisco to Auckland cruise on the Nordam next month. Are we allowed to bring fruit on board, especially from the Farmers Market in Hilo? I know we cannot bring food off the ship, but is the reverse true? It would be nice to have some fresh fruit in our cabin. In our estimation there is nothing better than Hawaiian pineapple.

When we were in the caribbean, we had fresh fruit that we bought and were told it was not allowed to come onboard. The security was going to throw it away and we asked for it back and just ate it in port. Maybe you will have better luck.

Fruit (grapes, oranges, bananas, etc.) is available by asking your Room Steward on the Noordam.

Interesting. We spent two months on the Prinsendam this spring and then the Viking Passage on the Rotterdam and had no trouble bring food of any type aboard. We couldn't take anything off but they didn't care what we brought on as long as it wasn't wine.

The fruit that we wanted to bring back onboard was genip. Another name for it is spanish lime. We bought extra to have some later. Throwing the genip in the garbage was unthinkable, so we just went back outside and ate all of it. LUckily this fruit is tiny and has a pit in the middle.
