Genting Dream detained by Chinese authorities in straits between Hainan Island and Mainland China for about 12 hours. I suspect it is for illegal gambling. When I was on the Virgo I just could not believe what I saw. It was on the same route as the Dream now and the casino was wide open while sailing through the Chinese waters.

Wow so that was what it was...I was looking at marine traffic and noticed the Dream was hanging around in the straits while its destination was supposed to be Vietnam... What were they thinking?!!

World Dream is coming out next year and this is making me nervous to whether i should book it or not. I did heard about the long queues. I wonder whether they rushed their ship into service without training the staff? They can't blame it on it being a new ship since they should be rather proficient being a Genting Company with experience in Star Cruises.

Yes I was looking at the same marine traffic map. Cannot believe they would keep on doing the same wrong think. I have my dream cruise book for Feb. 2017 and hope they don't make any schedule changes again as I have my air ticket book now.

They change schedule for the Virgo a few days ago on the Nov. 21. Now it is 4 and 5 days cruises for Jan. to Mar. 2017 from Shenzhen. Not going to get the local on the ship like that. I think they could change the schedule again as it wouldn't sell. Maybe even pulling the ship out of China and maybe back to Singapore.

How about the second Dream ship coming next year. What are they going to do with it.

They better hope Dream is selling good in China or they will have difficulty trying to place World Dream. If they do well, then its China. However, with Ovation,Quantum, Majestic and Joy hanging around, Dream Cruises could be in a tight trouble if their ships don't sell.

Honestly I wouldn't mind it being in Singapore.

Star Cruises pulling the Virgo out off Shenzhen and it will be homeport in Manila. Looks like their plans for China is ruined. Genting Dream is effectively homeport in HK now. They got big problems ahead with the World Dream coming next year. The flip side is it will be good for the consumer.

I thought you will be interested how SC is doing in SG. Just got off the Gemini 2 days ago and I may be the last 1 in 10 casino members left. It is a no-go for me now as they just raised the casino points needed to go on their ships by 3.5 times the already high points required. This would be my last cruise on SC.

The mismanagement by SC is legendary. I am going on the Dream on Feb. 19 and just found out they have changed their schedule again. No email or phone call from them. I have to book another plane ticket to get back to SG now

Looks like Genting Dream is locked out of China. That would leave the market wide open for Quantum, Joy, Ovation and others. Not sure if their new ship World Dream will be homeport in China.

I don't think Genting Dream would do well in SG either. There are no more casino members left. This last cruise on the Gemini the ship was less than half full, about 700 pax. The locals don't go on the ship as there is nothing to do on the ship except gambling.

What are they going to do with World Dream now?

What's there to do in the port at North Bali then?

I guess we can a take reference from other liners going to north bali, example silversea.

excursion likely include singaraja.

stopover about 11 hours, so guess we might see Pura Ulun Danu Beratan

However, Dream shouldn't start selling without all the important details, like excursion detail out first.

This give cruisers the impression planning and management is not organize.

thus far, dream cruise Singapore homeport doesnt have any promotion.

When you compare to heavy promotion from RCCL Ovation, Princess cruise and rock bottom price offer by Costa, Dream doesn't stand well.

True, dream cruise is targeting the premium market but i believe after the initial batch, Dream might encounter difficulties attracting new customers and fighting market share

They've already screwed up their initial target market for now, when they are supposed to homeport in China and can't. I think they're just slow with the marketing after having to reshuffle the ship. A few weeks back Dream cruises featured on ST's front page with the new itineraries. It's not a surprise if they don't sell well when Genting Dream's Singapore homeport season starts.

Why Dream got lockout from China market?

I just got back from a 7N cruise on the Genting Dream.

For the 5N destination cruise there were 1600 pax and the 2N week-end cruise 3500 pax. Total capacity for GD is 3900 pax.

Why the big difference on pax. I am at a lost myself.

The 5N cruise pax is made up of half HK residents and half Guangdong residents.

The 2N cruise is almost all HK residents.

The food is almost all Chinese except for the buffet.

There are 2 shows only and it is all in Mandarin.

This is not a family cruise as the loud music on the 6 and 7 gambling floors is irritating even for me. I suppose that is what casinos do to create the needed buzz for the casino.

The rooms are nice as can be expected for a new ship.

I can carry on here for another 10 pages. So instead if you have any questions I will answer it as best I can.

I bet you're as disappointed as me! Did you have sufficient food for the 7 nights? I'll be amazed if you did. That's one step better than the one I went on...

I wouldn't say I am disappointed considering that it is a Comp 7N cruise from the casino.

Yes the 2N week-end cruise was a hassle not only for food but shows and long queues for everything.

It just remind me of my coming cruise on the Ovation knowing that it is a larger ship and knowing how RCI like to pack us all in in their ship.

Mine was comp too by the casino, but still disappointed. Thank god for Royal. Went on Quantum 2 years ago during its repositioning to China. It was quite packed for a 3 night cruise. Queues for shows and restaurants were quite long, I think it would have been alright if the cruise was longer for that many people. Roughly about 4000 pax that time. We couldn't try everything cause of the crowd, but Royal still beats Dream any day to me!

You are not by chance a SC VIP member? If you are maybe I know you or even played together on the same gaming table.

Just notice you mention a 3N repositioning cruise to China?

Oh not me, my dad plays! What's SC? Sky Club? or something like that?

Yea. During Quantum's repositioning cruise to China, there was a 3 night roundtrip cruise from SG back in summer of 2015.
