IMPORTANT CONSIDERATIONS ON THE MDR WINE LISTS...

Hi Everyone,

So there you have it, the 2012 Celebrity Wine List for the Main Dining Rooms.

Now as I understand it, this is the FULL LIST for the MDRs FLEET WIDE … but is not necessarily so that ALL wines will be available in ALL Venues… or in some cases there will be only a limited amount of bottles of some selections.

Specific Wine Lists for each of Celebrity’s Ships in the fleet will have the current availability… if one is seeking a specific wine, then you should consult one of the MDR’s Sommeliers.

--- --- ---

I would like to once again thank the wonderful crew on the Celebrity Solstice who got this info to me…

Igor – the Maitre D’ of the Grand Epernay Dining Room

Amir – the Head Sommelier

And how they understood the importance of getting this info out to Celebrity's Cruise Critic Fans.

--- --- ---

I continue to transcribe the Wine Lists for BLU (featuring Organic, Biodynamic and Sustainable Offerings) and the Specialty Restaurants (some overlap for sure to the main MDR List), and will hopefully have more to post shortly.

Again, I thank everyone for their cooperation, and patience while I worked on the transciptions, and also as to the posting method (it indeed go off without interruption).

Much appreciated.

Cheers!

Thank you for this information... very helpful indeed. It obviously took a great deal of time to transcribe and share with us. Looking forward to seeing the wine lists in person next month.

Thanks Sloop-John B,

That is great information for anyone looking to compare wine packages etc. I hope this will be made available as a Sticky.

HI DON ROBERTO SAN JUAN (love saying / writing out your name BTW)

As I said this is only PHASE ONE...

Still have BLU and the Specialty Restaurants to come.

But, YES the by-the-glass info here in particular is great for anyone considering one of the Beverage Packages (Classic or Premium Alcoholic).

OR if one wants, there is also the Wine Bottle Packages (Taste of the Vineyards on the S-Class Ships)

We had the Premium Package, and were never disappointed by our options... we also had a very knowledgeable Sommelier (Koray from Turkey)... he never steered us wrong and quickly learned what it was our taste-buds preferred.

Found it interesting when we got home, and had time to pour over these lists that Celebrity had so much on offer (again a Cruise Line that seems to be all about choices... something for everyone). And we were surprised to also see that if one opts for the Classic Alcoholic Package, that there is plenty to choose from as well (Wines By the Glass that are $ 8 or less)

Our next cruise is port intensive... and we think we'll change things up a bit.

Our two Premium Alcohol Packages this past cruise (7 Days) came to $ 756 + 15% = $ 869.40

Probably buy a Wine Package instead next cruise, and have a nice bottle of wine every night with dinner. And then put the rest on ala carte... (Premium Coffees & Teas, Fresh Juice, Water, Ice-Caps, Cocktails, Sparkling, and Nightcaps)... figure we'll still do ok pricewise... using our past numbers as a guide... with only one sea-day, I don't see us sucking back a lot of Frozen Concoctions like we did this trip when we had 4 Sea Days.

Cheers!

Thank you so much for posting this list and for your hard work in transcribing it.

There has clearly been some major changes in both selection and price from the past.

HI CRUISER SUSIE & LSIMON,

Thank you for your kind words.

Lol, yes I think my Italian, Spanish & French is a lot better now than it was last year ;)

As I say more to come... BLU & The Specialty Restaurants... won't be far behind.

BLU's list is particulary intersting as all the wines have notations in regards to either being Organic, Biodynamic or Sustainable.

Larry, you are right, I looked at the previous list that was here on CC, and there have been significant changes... both in pricing and selection.

But, for the most part, we felt that the wine list was exceptional... especially so when compared to Landbased Restaurants with similiar food choices. Pretty amazing that they can offer so much at sea.

NOTE - And I read somewhere, that Celebrity now has the largest collection of wines at sea for their Cruisers (vs other mainstream lines)

Hope you both enjoy your upcoming cruise on the Equinox.

Cheers!

PS... Larry have been enjoying your Photo Album, as I plan / anticipate my next cruise. You have great photos of the Summit Aft Cabins... am already excited (just 11-1/2 more months to go)

How did you get to try different wines that were on the list but

Thanks

TO SWIGSO,

You are very welcome... glad to help.

There are actually "several" lists this however is the biggest one... the one for the MDR. I am still in the process of transcribing the others.

So various venues, may have some of the same wines on offer by the glass... or some diffferent ones.

Generally speaking, one has to buy By The Glass Wines that are on the Wine List and sold that way.

BUT, we were offered on occasion some "out of the norm" things to try that came at the suggestion of our Celebrity Sommelier in the Dining Room.

We wondered how such unique things were being offered, we finally determined that they came from a variety of sources...

(a) Wines Sold By the Glass at other Venues (ie Blu, Morano's etc)... The MDR Sommelier, perhaps having a bottle or two transferred for that night's Dinner.

(b) Wines that may have been on special that evening... that we were not aware of at the time (being on the Premium Package, we didn't have much cause to read thru "Celebrity Today" to find out what the Head Sommelier's Daily Recommendation was etc)

© Wines that may be left over from other Wine & Food Events that are held that same day...

So you might be getting a pour from a Wine that was featured at the "Viva Italia Italian Wine Tasting" mid-afternoon ... or perhaps something that is being showcased at Cellar Masters.

To be honest, we didn't ask... we just felt honoured to have such wines offered to us... guessing now that there were probably a limited supply each day.

The key here, as with everything when it comes to wine, is knowing (a) what you like, and (b) trusting your Sommelier to quickly figure out your tastes... ours did a great job.

We never questioned his expertise, or his ability to find unusual things to offer us.

It would have been crass we figured to ask...

So we just went with the flow, and ended up being very satisfied with is choices, and our entire experience. We of course tipped him extra at the end of the cruise... As I've said, You treat me "extra special"... and I will certainly do something "extra special" for you... especially so when it isn't being done in anticipation of anything in return.

This is what we felt made Celebrity great... the Staff did their utmost to see you were happy, without ever hinting that there was to be something in it for them... they seemed to do things for their Guests because they genuinely cared about you (I also took this to mean that as a Company, Celebrity treats their staff well... and rewards them for good Customer Service... this seemed to be the case when I had some private chats with various members of the Crew... if you do a good job, there are valuable perks to be gained... a BONUS, a promotion, extra time off, etc)

I remember I thought it strange when I read here months ago on the CC CELEBRITY BOARD how others here had said they became "friends" with Service Staff from past cruises, and how they would email them, or look out for them (inquire about them) whenever they are on the same ship again (or know someone else going)... Now I TRULY GET IT. These people are fabulous people, we met several that we could certainly now call our own "friends". And hopefully, our paths will cross again.

Hope this is helpful,

Cheers!
