Genoa info and aquarium

We'll be in Genoa in July. It seems this is a under visited port, as I can find very little about it. We'll have 4 kids with us and would like to go to the aquarium. Does anyone know how far the aquarium is from the port, or have any other input regarding it?

How about other things to do in Genoa? We'll have just spent 4 days in Paris where I've planned several museum trips, so more museums or churches will be low on our priorities.

the aquarium and the maritime museum are not far from the cruise terminal (say 15/20 minutes walk)

in between the maritime museum and the aquarium you can also visit the replica of the galleon which was used for the movie "pirates" with walter matthau

Genoa is dear to my heart.

We were supposed to stop in Portofino, but because of weather we were diverted to Genoa, which we knew absolutely nothing about. It turned out to be a dream diversion. We walked off the ship, entered the town center, and just rambled about, discovering what an incredibly rich history this city has. It was a major trading center, very wealthy, and there are all kinds of old mansions etc that you can tour that hold world-class artworks in a very casual way. And churches, and the Christopher Columbus connections. Wonderful city, full of discoveries.

Some good info on Genoa under the Destinations area here on CC: http://www.cruisecritic.com/ports/newport.cfm?ID=181

(Don't miss the tabs toward the bottom -- the new page layout is very cluttered and the tabs look like they are part of an ad  but they actually have a lot more description and practical info....)
