Holland America Line Pulls Acapulco From Cruise Itineraries Due to Security Concerns

I'm surprised it took this long to pull it.

I love Mexico and we go yearly to Playa Del Carmen on the Gulf side, however we went to Acapulco 30 yrs ago for our honeymoon and we didn't feel safe there even way back then.

Although I have been to Acapulco several times on cruises, I agree with HAL on this one. There is a really serious drug cartel crime problem in that city, which has been going on for a number of years. Personally I would not miss it. Perhaps they will include a different Mexican port, such as Zihautanejo (which I visit annually and is much saver, with even more beautiful beaches).

I think the concern is perhaps more than just the local crime problem, but probably also factors in the concern that tourists (and perhaps American tourists) would be an especial target. That kind of concern would prompt such an action even if the local crime problem doesn't seem that severe.
