retdon Posted March 21, 2012 #1 Share Posted March 21, 2012 I have a Starboard cabin reserved on Veranda deck near elevators and am thinking of switching to Port side. Any comments, Pro/Cons, etc. Wondering how she docks at our ports, Southern Caribbean schedule. Seems like we always get a Starboard and thought we might try the other side for a change....... CruiserBruce Posted March 21, 2012 #2 Share Posted March 21, 2012 Doesn't matter which side, scenery is all around. Can't predict which side a ship will dock. Docking side depends on many issues, which can change day to day.

Krazy Kruizers Posted March 21, 2012 #4 Share Posted March 21, 2012 In 2009 when we were on the Noordam -- the starboard side faced land. We were on port side always facing the ocean -- no view. Nov 2011 -- port side faced land. Different captains!! Who knows what it will be for your cruise.

ariawoman Posted March 21, 2012 #6 Share Posted March 21, 2012 A cabin somewhere on the ship should be good :-) Aside from that, no matter as it can change based on many factors :-) If you want to be on the left for once, go to port! Otherwise stay starboard. The only place it truly matters is smoking area placement, for example on X there's a smoking area midship on port side of 5 so if you are allergic you dont want a cabin right over it...i dont think you run that risk with where the HAL smoking areas are. PathfinderEss Posted March 21, 2012 #7 Share Posted March 21, 2012 I never worry about which side to be on, land on the way out land on the way back.
jimmy2x Posted March 22, 2012 #8 Share Posted March 22, 2012 I will assume that you will be on the 11 day Carib cruise. If so, opt for port so that when the ship moves from Castries to Soufriere you will get a great view of the island. Additionally, when leaving Soufriere we sailed very slowly past the Pitons at twilight. Great view!
LUV2CRUZalso Posted March 22, 2012 #9 Share Posted March 22, 2012 Agree with you, Jimmy2x. we have always had the best of luck on the port side. Maybe it was just chance but it worked out for us. We again have the port side for our next Noordam Southern Caribbean..... hope I didn't jinx the luck. Regardless...... you will love it!!!!!! retdon Posted March 22, 2012 Author #10 Share Posted March 22, 2012 Thanks to everyone for the comments. We have moved to port, something different for a change. It does not matter if we see water or the dock..... we will see some of everything anyway.:D
510picker Posted March 22, 2012 #11 Share Posted March 22, 2012 We did the same cruise in 2010. We were port side and always had great views. Photos from our cruise can be seen at the link below. http://www.pbase.com/510picker/noordam_cruise
zookiebird Posted March 22, 2012 #12 Share Posted March 22, 2012 If you're like me, no matter which side you choose you'll turn the wrong way when you get off the elevator.
