We'll be on a B2B in June and are thinking of flying in early to spend time in the city before the cruise. Any recommendations for a hotel in Lisbon, Portugal?

Also looking for post cruise options for Edinburgh?

Thank you.

We've stayed at Solar do Castolo and it was completely charming. Peacocks in the courtyard and breakfast is included. Its right at the top of the Alfama and was part of the fort. The only caveat is that the rooms are very small. http://www.solardocastelo.com/?utm_source=Tripadvisor&utm_medium=ad&utm_term=hotel%20website&utm_content=hotel%20website&utm_campaign=Tripadvisor

We had a great stay at the Design Hotel in Libsonl:

Modern with a bit of edge, but great staff and comfortable room - we sprung for one of the top floor rooms that are on the bigger side. Right smack in the middle of the city.

For your post-cruise time in Edinburgh, consider at least a day trip to Glasgow, totally different feel and a quick trip by train.

Check out the Hotel Avenida Palace in Lisbon. It is centrally located, reasonably priced and very elegant. The included breakfast buffet was fantastic.

The Avenida Palace is also worth considering. This was a few years ago, so maybe they've redecorated, but we found it to be a bit tattered around the edges and room vary. We popped for what was marketed as a Jr. Suite on some special they were offering, and wound up with a full 2 room suite with high ceilings, bit rooms and great views, but every square inch could have used a little attention. Friends booked a regular room and were disappointed. Breakfast is probably the best part - fantastic. The staff is very formal, we made a game of trying to get them to smile, no dice.

So, a good solid choice if you want old fashioned elegance and formality, and can deal with a little deferred maintenance.

1st time in Lisbon we stayed at Olissipo Lapa Palace which is gorgeous but requires cab to city center. Second time was Valverde which is small boutique in city. It was one of our best stays ever. Highly recommend. Charming.
