Stabbing in MDR?

I just read on cruise junkie about a fight in the main dining room, 8:15. It stared with a couple throwing drinks at each other then plates and glasses were flying, one man was stabbed by a brother and another's throat was cut by a plate. They thought he had died. This was on Carnival's Splendor.

Anyone else hear about this? Know anything about it?

It also said it took Security 10-30 minutes to get there.

Wondr if it was over formal night attire.

Seems a long time for security to get there.

Isn't it wonderful when families get together for Thanksgiving Dinner.

Haven't heard a thing. If it happened it was probably a domestic thing which can happen anywhere especially around Thanksgiving.

Side note: Cruise Junkie is a disgusting site, The Enquirer of the seas. What's it's purpose? To scare the daylights out of everyone?

Didn't even need to read the last sentence to know it was on a Carnival ship. Carnival is a treasure trove for Cruise Junkie's material. :eek:

I agree. There is no corroborating article as of this morning. You would think that someone on board would write on CC or a real news report would talk about it. Even TMZ or Fox!

Bet one was wearing shorts.

Witnesses notoriously overstate response times. Note the original post said "10-30 minutes". Well, as there is such a vast difference, which is it?

I have seen witness state 20 minute response times by emergency responders, when there is clear evidence the response time was less than 5 minutes.

When it is an emergency, lay people can become very poor sources of time keeping. Have also heard cases where people insisted they watched something happening for periods of time, figuring someone else would call. When no emergency responder arrived, the people watching for the extended period of time call, and guess what- they were the first callers.

So, from my almost 40 years in emergency response, statements like "it took 20 minutes" or "10-30 minutes" have no credibility, until more factual data can be determined.

Agree with the poster who said Cruise Junkie is garbage. Its the Online cruise equivalent of cable news.....very little facts, lots of opinions and hyperbole, and designed to grab attention.

Why such shock about a violent incident on a cruise ship?

What is the difference about the 'community' on a cruise ship or in a land restaurant/hotel?

You put thousands of people in a confined space at the same time and there is good chance there is at least one lunatic.

People get sick on cruise ships, they die on cruise ships, they have fights on cruise ships, they steal, they lie, they pretend to be someone other than their real selves, they get drunk, they are on drugs or off their meds :rolleyes: .......

Why is such an event shocking? Does it never happen in a city or town near you? No stabbings, no gun shots, no fist fights, no violence?

If so where is this utopia? ;)

I seriously doubt it was the first or the last.

Thanks for the update. So glad no one died in this domestic dispute which unfortunately happened in the MDR.

dag.. this thread is worse than the fight reported on the cruise ship! come on people, aren't we grown?

Oh leave them alone....it's the most entertainment I've experienced in the airport for my flight to my cruiseship.

I honestly could not imagine a fight getting so out of hand on a cruise ship for any reason. Naive, I know. Sure, Thanksgiving is a fun time with family. Or not. There is a reason people don't live close to other family members. We've had a few times over the years when things haven't gotten too smoothly. But a physical fight?! I can't imagine. When I say a few years, we've been doing the family Christmas/Thanksgiving get together for over 25 years.

People! It is not like at home when you beat your wife/husband/child/brother. People know who you are and you have to see them repeatedly ... well if security lets you out of your cabin. :eek: It is not like you can hide! I guess it goes back to the saying... you can take the person out of the ghetto but you can't take the ghetto out of the person.

I guess we have been lucky. In all our years of cruising we have never experienced over aggressive people. We've had the opposite experience.

One of the cruises I was on got mentioned on that site -- a woman had dropped her toddler off the gangway while trying to shuffle her cruise card, etc. Even though other family members should had helped er. That whole family was the talk of the passengers for the 15-day cruise as they were pretty obnoxious. BTW, the kid was rescued.

I believe that site was started by a lawyer who specializes in maritime lawsuits or someone who just as an ax to grind ag. cruise lines.

What's funny is that we'd just spent some days on vacay in a hotel and a few nights hear some sirens. So we had joked about all the reasons why for Thanksgiving from impromptu family football game injuries to family fights that got out of hand.

Going on 32 years as a 9-1-1 dispatcher and all of this is true , and more .

The wait times get longer and the severity of the incident gets grossly exaggerated too sometimes

While I can't say I've seen a lot of them, there have been a few, usually domestic problems. The most jaw dropping one (I saw the surveillance video) was the 70 year old man who just hauled back and knocked his wife of 40+ years out cold, while waiting in the buffet line. No witness reported any disturbance prior to this, just the two talking to each other. Never found out why it happened, but she joined him leaving the ship at the next port.
