Estimating Freighter Arrival Dates

Recommended Posts

We are thinking of a freighter cruise segment from the USA to Singapore. We are doing Royal Caribbean B3B cruises departing Singapore on May 3, 2015.

We would like the freighter cruise to arrive in Singapore about a week before May 3rd.

We know that we have be flexible in planning freighter cruises but what's a good rule of thumb in estimating early-late arrival dates for freighters?

It is hard to predict a freighter's schedule, but container ships run on a fairly reliable schedule, so that a week should be enough of a cushion to arrive in time for your cruise. I sailed on container ships for a number of years, and we were usually within a day or two of our schedule, but there are no guarantees. Break-bulk freighters are more fun but less reliable because of delays in ports.
