Hang around Civitavecchia terminal or Fiumicino airport??

Oceania have confirmed that we have to be off the ship by 9am. Our flight departs at 15:15, so we were thinking of arranging transfer for 11:30-12:00. Given we'll be lumbered with our luggage and time is limited, our options would be either of the above.

Last October there was substantial building work at Fiumicino but we were through the port so quickly that I didn't notice what facilities were available.

Advice anyone or past experience?

Last I was there there was no terminal.. they dump you on the street in front of the port gate...

..I would go to the airport as they have much more in amenities, If your a FF elite or flying Business or better home then you can visit the excellent lounges:cool:

Agree with Hawaiidan, there's no point waiting at the terminal in Civitavecchia, nothing there, however I have a suggestion for your transfer, to go somewhere interesting en route to the airport such as via Ostia Antica, it's quite close to Fiumicino.

There are private transfers that will pick you up at the ship, give you a tour and then deposit you at the airport. Might be a good way to kill some time and involve a transfer as well.

Excellent suggestion. Here's a link to a USA Today web site titled "Pre- or Post-cruise, don't miss these Civitavecchia attractions."

Unless I'm actively shopping, I don't think I could kill several hours in the Duty Free stores. Possibly a late night packing. Certainly an early wake-up for disembarcation. Some degree of stress locating luggage and loading a taxi. Add those up and the charms of Italian designer goods would quickly pale for me if I'm only in just-looking, killing-time mode.
