Check and see if Overlord does tours from other than cruise ship locations (I presume you mean hotel pickup?). We had an excellent tour of the D-Day battlefields with them a few years ago and they are very highly rated.

I second the suggestion to use Overlord for a Normandy tour. We joined a very small group of CC members [Princess British Isles cruise] for a full day's trip to WWII sites, and had a excellent guide/driver who gave us a few options as to where we wanted to spend more time.

Most popular from Le Havre, in no special order..........

Paris by train. About 2 to 2.5 hours, service approx hourly

Rouen. By rental car or the Paris-bound train.you may want to include a stop at Monet's garden at Giverny (about 3 miles by bus or taxi from Vernon station)

The D-Day beaches and sights. For the US, sites like Omaha beach and the American cemetery at Colleville-sur-Mer, Pointe du Hoc, Utah beach, for Canadians sites like Juno beach at Courseulles-sur-Mer, for Brits sites like Sword, Gold, Arromanches-sur-Mer and Pegasus Bridge.

By rental car (navigation and parking are easy with a little research, and there's plenty of signage and staff at the sites) or by car with driver, or with one of the specialist D-Day tour operators such as Overlord.

Bayeux. For its famous Bayeux tapestry of the Norman conquest of England in 1066 and for its cathedral. Can be tied in with D-Day sights.

By rented car or car with driver.

Mont St Michel. Something over 2 hours by rented car or car with driver. Surprisingly, about the same as from Cherbourg.

Honfleur. Touristy fishing port, very attractive, very relaxing, about 30 mins from Le Havre. By rented car or taxi or, if it's the right day-of-the-week and your ship departs late evening, by the infrequent little green bus(bus verte).

For a lazy day ...... or for the longer days to the beaches, MSM or Bayeux, it makes a great deal of sense to build in a 30 to 60 minute stop at Honfleur on the way back to the ship.

That's your wiggle-time, shorten it or abandon it if you're delayed heading back.

Plenty of other options in Normandy, these are the most popular.

For a tour or rented car or car with driver you do need to book in advance.

Does anyone know of a good tour from the port of Le harve to Normandy that is not from the cruise ship. Any suggestions are greatly appreciated.

Hi APOTS

This is not a Normandy suggestion, but a very interesting trip which I took last year.

Rent a car in Le Havre and drive to Dieppe (site of the ill-fated, controversial Allied Raid). It is a gorgeous seaside town with lots of sites of historical interest. However be sure to enjoy a coffee or glass of wine in the harbor area. It is beautiful.

The two towns are only 115 kms (70 miles) apart and it is a nice drive.

Cheers!

HTP
