Disembarkation With Carry On Luggage Only

Recommended Posts

Yes, the disembarkation schedule is based in part on the fact that Princess can't get all the luggage out at once. The times are based on the transportation schedule that you give to Princess.

If your luggage isn't an issue, you can have any departure time you wish. As above, if you don't like your assigned time, go to the passenger services desk and they will change it for you.

Earlier this year we were on a different cruise line and were able to disembark first due to not having any checked luggage. We will be on the Ruby Princess in September and wondering if this is how it works with Princess as well. Is it standard among all cruise lines?

If you have carry on's only and will not be claiming luggage in the terminal you can sign up for early walk off disembarkation.

If you do have luggage to claim in the terminal you will not have access to it if you do the self disembarkation and walk off early.

Basically that's been my experience.

This isn't true at all.

The people who are walking off -- carrying all their own luggage,

with no 'checked' bags are usually broken into about a half dozen

groups.

Within those groups, they're rather strict at enforcing who can leave when.

You can ask for the first walk-off group, but if it is already full, you may not

get it.

After the walk-off groups, I suppose you can walk off whenever you wish.

But, why would you? You're just setting yourself up for

longer customs/immigration lines.

If you say so. Our assigned time wasn't going to work with our transportation time. I went to the desk and the lady asked me what time I wanted. I told her what time our transportation was meeting us, and she suggested 45 minutes before that time.

Yes you can pick your time. We always ask for the first group.

I have done several walk-offs over the years. As with many things on Princess, procedures can vary from ship to ship and cruise to cruise.

On one Princess cruise, my requested walk-off time was full, but I was told to just show up anyway and walk off with my desired group and did. On another Princess cruise, my requested time was full, I was told it could not be moved due to other pax having planes to catch (I was a local to the port), and the assigned times were strictly enforced that cruise.

My advice is to go to the CSD immediately if your assigned time is not to your liking. The sooner you get off the ship, I have found, the shorter the customs lines will be.

How was it strictly enforced?

I have never been asked to show any proof of my assigned time when I report to the lounge assigned to the time I have.

This has been my experience as well.

We are elite on Princess and have been refused an earlier walk off when we needed it ... they stated the earlier ones were full so we did not get it.

Shorter cruises oftentimes have many requests for walk off ... so might be harder to get the time you want. We've never had trouble with getting walk off on any longer cruises ... but your 3 and 4 day ones are full of requests for walk off so get to the purser's desk earlier if it is a shorter cruise.

We were asked to show our assigned passes, then herded by group into the main theatre and watched by staff (no joke). When our assigned # was announced, we were escorted as a group by staff to the gangway.

It sounds like they want to keep it more organized than the cruise we did earlier this year. They told us that anyone with no checked bags could disembark as soon as the ship was cleared. While it seemed like a bit of a 'free for all' it went quickly and smoothly. Thanks again everyone!

It doesn't sound like you were in the walk-off groups at all,

as they usually don't span 45 minutes.

Did you have a tag with a color, like Purple-4 or some such?

It isn't really 'if I say so', I'm just stating my experience.

if you're on a cruise where the average age is dead, there will be

about 2 people who will walk off. You can request any walk off

time, and pretty much get it.

If you are on a cruise during spring break, where every one is

impatient, and completely capable of carrying their bags, half

the ship will walk off.

You will have to promptly request a particular walk off group,

and even then, you may not get it.

And, in my experience, where there are a great number of

walk-offs, they really enforce the group numbers, and only

let you leave with your group.

People here take limited experience(s) and extrapolate

it to all cruises on all (princess) ships.

And, things often vary, even from cruise to cruise on the same ship.

Off the Regal in Barcelona we did not check our bagages and we could get a taxi right away.

Friends of ours who had checked their bagages (the bags outside your cabin at night routine) had to wait to get off, find their bags and wait to get a taxi for 45 minutes!

Of course you have to be able to handle your suicases down ramps and/or stairs if the elevators are full. :(

We started to a walk on and off with our luggage. Things go fast. In checking in is real easy. I don't carry any compute, no loose change, no pocketbook and don't wear a belt. Papers in outside pocket of carry on. I don't want to tie the line up. Put it on the X-ray belt and I am good to go.

We do walk off too. Very easy, we are in our car before we know it.
