Suite 4192 QE

We've done 4195, which is the next door and not on the centre line as 4912 is. By the look of the deck plan you get a little more floor space. They used to be Q7s but have now been regraded to Q6.

Good points - a very spacious cabin that in shape and layout we preferred to a Q4. Also rather quiet and unlike the sloping stern of QV, you are not overlooked from above when on the balcony. There's loads of storage space and the bathroom is very usable. Only one TV but it spins around. There used to be an iPod dock but I think these have gone now, they were certainly missing from QV in November. Dining in suite is possible but the coffee table you use is a bit small and a bit low.

"Bad" points - it's quite a hike to the Grills but at least it's a small aid to helping walk off all that good food! We had a constant low level vibration that you could feel when in bed at night and when maneuvering in port it got bad enough to jangle all the wine glasses on the shelf. I understand this was due to poor mounting of motors or engines down in the bowels of the vessel and it has now been fixed. But even if it's still there, it's hardly noticeable. Being at the stern you get a very gentle, slow, up and down pitching motion if the seas are rough but it's not bad enough to worry about unless you suffer very badly from mal de mer. The downside of all that floor space and not being overlooked is that the balcony is a bit short and if you don't like heights it's not a lot of fun leaning on the balcony rail.

You don't get a wet bar or a walk in wardrobe like in a Q3/Q4 but that's hardly a deal breaker and in many ways the use of floor space is better as a result. The butlering is every bit as good as higher graded suites, there's no risk of feeling like the poor relation.

Finally, don't be surprised if you get a last minute upgrade to a Q4 or Q3, because this isn't infrequent if they are trying to fill the final few cabins and want to offer Q6 grades as a guarantee. The upgrade should be a freebie. Even better, once when on a guarantee (Q6) but having already been allocated a Q4 we got the phone call asking if we wanted to spend just a little bit more and have a Q1, the biggest cabins on the ship. It would have been rude to say no.

Thanks. We've never stayed in an aft suite, but have visited friends on QV in one. We usually book a Q6 guarantee, but this time had to book one of two at the rear. We usually get upgraded to a Q3, but our best was on QE to the Britten suite. I wanted to move in!

Hi Sharon

I think you came to our wee party in 8165 which is our favourite room.

A couple dining near us last November, had one of the rooms on 4 Deck and they found the vibrations too much so were given a separate room for sleeping.

We've booked QE for October and have 8181 which is the nearest equal.

Incidentally, we couldn't find anything suitable for an early holiday with Cunard, so instead, we've booked a round trip to Venice in April on the OE.

Stewart
