Customs and immigration at -Rome

We are arriving flying from Chicago to Rome-Fuminico airport and then flying Alitalia to Venice, same day. Do we have to back through security after we go through customs, immigration and collect our luggage

When we did this, yes, we had to go through customs in Rome. We were not on Alitalia on the US to Rome flight, but I don't think that matters as domestic flights are in a different terminal. So I think everyone has to go through customs to get out of the international part. Good news is you won't have to do it again in Venice.

Thanks for your response Rachel. i thought that to be the case. How close are the terminals and are porters available for luggage? Thanks

We did a lot of walking, but it wasn't Ike LHR where you have to get on a bus to change terminals. Honestly don't know about porters there because we don't use them.
