Azamara on board entertainment

Some of the acts are great. Last cruise there was a Scottish girl who sang, played the 'fiddle' and the whistle. The music she played was mixed, with an emphasis on Scottish folk. She was great. Also on Journey any show with the cruise director Eric is great. His version of Hairspray, on roller skates, was a sight to behold!

They have live guitarists playing and singing at lunchtime near the pool and in the evening in the discovery bar and a pianist playing in the casino bar in the evening.

Well, What is the most entertaining thing on a cruise?

For me, it's White Night on the open deck. Especially when it's hosted by Russ, who seems to have the energy of ten people! Also I love the shows featuring the Russian or Ukrainian dancers. It's great to be in a smaller venue where you are so close to them that feathers from the costumes can land in your lap. One of my favourite nights entertainment ever was our Azamazing evening in Livorno's magnificent Goldoni Theatre watching The Three Tenors ....just wonderful.

Then there is trivia, dancing the night away in The Looking Glass, listening to Max or Ed playing piano and just being entertained by chatting to other well travelled and friendly Azamara passengers while enjoying a (free) glass of wine or a cocktail.

That's my idea of cruise entertainment. :)

I'm sorry canny cruiser...Who's flaming you? No-one here is doing that.

However, we are disagreeing with your use of the rather unpleasant word "toadying" when it comes to describing the interaction between the Azamara crew and their loyal and repeat guests onboard.

We are entitled to do that. Your opinion is yours.....but it isn't my opinion, or that of the many people here who feel that the Azamara Crew are like family.

I just posted TWO positive posts about Azamara.

I expect you won't believe it!

Hope you are well. Where's Spursgirl these days?

Watching movies at sea on a really nice screen is a nice experience. Azamara ships are too small to support that type of screen and sound system. My biggest fear of cruising on Azamara is evening entertainment (or lack thereof). We're not big fans of the cabaret acts (generally less talent than you see on America's Got Talent) that all seem to look and sound the same.

I actually enjoy movies at sea, but then I always like to watch a good movie whether at home, in a theater, in a cruise ship theater, in a cruise ship cabin, or up on deck. Low key and relaxing. I don't have to have razzle-dazzle every night (although I like that as well).

For me it is the people I meet that are entertaining.. Not all positive, but entertaining never the less. Azamara travelers are very interesting and the officers of these ships are exceptionally entertaining.

Can you watch movies under the stars at home?

I struggle with people spending thousands on a cruise, and spending time watching movies that are at the local theater at home, or on TV or Roku? There are so many other things to do that you can't do at home- only on a cruise. Even just having a quiet libation with your special person after dinner and watching the ocean is "priceless".

I personally avoid cruise lines with jumbotrons showing movies.

The only movie worth watching on a cruise ship is Titanic!

We did this in 1999 in mid Atlantic as the ship creaked and rolled.

As to the friendliness/ toadying of senior officers, except on luxury lines it is unusual generally to regularly encounter this rarified breed, so accept any such contact as a bonus.

Kindest regards

Have you sailed on Azamara Master Echo?

There is no toadying by senior officers as you so charmingly put it.

On the contrary they are a professional team of people who concentrate on their passengers having a great cruise with friendliness and kindness

Spot on! I think it is the genuiness that always impresses me about all of the crew on Azamara. They do it because they enjoy doing it.

A few days ago I had a reason to communicate with Richard Twynam, Azamara's UK Managing Director. He replied to me immediately and was so kind and helpful. I cannot emphasise enough that from the MD, the Captain's, Hotel Directors and Cruise Directors down just how committed the whole Azamara team are to making each guest's cruise a wonderful experience.

That's one of the many reasons that we keep coming back to Azamara. :)

The entertainment I saw was very good, but the best entertainment is how well the care of the passengers is. I was always greeted with a friendly smile. I really had no issues to complain about so they were not tested.

In the past I have found Azamara to respond to bad issues exceptionally well. The measure of a cruise line is how well they handle adversarial incidents.

Azamara I think has done a good job in this department.

We have just returned from a cruise on Journey, we had a wonderful time met loads of lovely people from Australia America and the U.K.

The highlights for us are the Staff who down to every last one give you service with a smile, and genuinely seem to remember you, we didn't attend any functions with the senior officers but they were all lovely when we met them around ship.

The Amazing evening in Livorno was fab compared to the previous one we attended in Paphos, just so much better organised.

We had a balcony on deck 7 which was everything we needed to have a lovely cruise. Our attendants were excellent.

Overall for us the only weak point is some of the entertainment, we love the Lounge shows when you can get a good seat but are not prepared to rush dinner for them.

But we did think on this cruise on the days that the weather was not good that there should have been more entertainment during the day. We did end up watching films in our room which is not something we have ever done before on a cruise.

My only other little criticism is that breakfast finished to early at 9.30 on several days.

I loved Monaco and the fact that we were docked for two days there was fabulous.

Also the departure process was the best ever.

Overall thank you Azamara for an amazing trip.

Hi folks

I have sailed on many cruises with NCL (as a solo traveller) but have seen a holiday for the Caribbean on the Azamara in March.

Could anyone enlighten me on the dress code for the evenings, the dining arrangements (ie free style dining as opposed to set tables and times) the entertainment during the day and evenings and if there are dance classes offered?

Dress code is "resort casual" and here is a link to the Azamara website:

https://www.azamaraclubcruises.com/en-gb/booked-guests/you-board/packing-tips

It is Open Seating in the Main Dining Room. There are dance classes run by the ballroom dancers that you can attend in a group without fee. There is also the opportunity to have a private lesson if you want, that will run to around $75 per hour with the two pro ballroom dancers.

You can choose to dine solo in the main dining room or join others at a shared table for six. There is usually a time set for singles to meet and dine together--typically unhosted--in the MDR if they so choose.

Sorry to jump on this thread but when you turn up in the MDR and elect to sit on a shared table, does everyone have to wait until the table is full before being served?

We cruised in October on Journey we shared a table every night except one, generally the table was filled within a few minutes and then we ordered. One night we waited slightly longer and then we ended up with only 6 on a table for 8. Enjoy.

They try to wait but sometimes someone in a hurry asks the waiter. i did shared table at lunch twice in cool weather. not sure why one couple sat there as they were in a hurry for bridge tour. this could of been a one off as cooler weather more people in MDR for lunch.

I can have a quiet libation with DH at any time of the day or night while watching the ocean from my own deck. On the other hand, we almost never watch a movie at home, so it would be a real treat to do that for a change.:)
