Can I "borrow" my Passport Back?

My husband and I are on the Star Legend in December. We have a long port day in St. Martin and we've been there several times before. We'd like to take the ferry over to Anguilla for the day, but we need our passports to do that.

According to the website, Windstar will take our passports and hold them for the duration of the cruise. I don't mind that. I know some cruise lines do it that way. However, in this case, I'm wondering if they will let us "check them out" for the day. Has anyone had any experience with this problem? Any suggestions or advice would be appreciated.

Thanks!

Depending on your cruise ports, they may need your original passport to clear immigration and customs. They can't do that with a copy.

This is true - but immigration and customs (if any) is typically completed before the pax are let of the ship. Since the OP wants the passport for the day there should be no need for this ship to need it again until the next port the following day.
