With Classic Drink Package - Can you order a drink with 2 liquors?

We're about to experience our first drink package. I read that with the Classic Drink Package you can order a drink up to $8. Does anyone know what the cost of a drink would be using a standard pour vodka and Kahluh (white Russian)? I'm thinking it may exceed the $8. I'm pretty sure all the frozen alcoholic drinks also exceed the $8 but I thought I read that

the martini type drinks can be made smaller to fit within the Classic package requirements.

Any clairification is greatly appreciated :-)

You will not be able to order a martini from the Martini Bar but the other bars have a small martini which should fit into the $8 limit.

However, for just $11.80 per day, why not upgrade to premium? You don't have to think what is or is not covered. Spending a few thousand on your cruise - another hundred or two isn't going to make a difference. The cruise is not a time to cheap out.

Enjoy life!

The first package we had was the classic which was a free perk. We didn't feel like up grading so we stayed with that since we weren't going to be drinking much. What I would do is to order a vodka and then a few minutes later the kahula. I would then mix them myself.

The more I read the more I think I'm going to upgrade Hubby to the Premium and I'll stay on Classic. That way we can "take turns" if we want something higher end.

My recommendation is wait and see about upgrading. You can do it anytime on board. I had the same worries (you are far from alone) the first time we got the package, but the reality is that there was nothing I ordered that couldn't be made on the Classic Package. If they can't, the bartender will let you know first.

Interesting thought 'sharing'. As commented above, the upgrade is not that expensive compared to overall costs for cruise, air, excursions etc. I will upgrade if only for better beer selection. However DW is 99% sure to be happy with Classic package - I did think I might order a more expensive white wine for her, at dinner, on my Premium package and there could be an occasional extravagant cocktail. Is that Kosher ?

Note this is just curiosity from a first time Celebrity cruiser - we are inclined to upgrade both of our packages.

From what I have read here and experienced both of you have to order the same package. One person cannot order a drink package for themselves and the other one not with the thinking that you will share one. I don't believe it works that way. :)

Nice way of saying cheating the system.

Sad :( but alas people feel inclined to cheat at many things in life.

Susie, just let the bartender or server know that you have the Classic pkg and what you would like. Most time they will make it with liquors that stay within the pkg limits. They truly are there to try and make us happy and have a wonderful vacation.

No problem, I drank rusty nails and similar concoctions. You can have martinis at the martini bar on classic but you have to drink out of a tumbler unless there is a waiter around who you can ask to go to another bar and get a small martini glass and bring it back ... all silly and childish but true

White Russians are definitely on the classic package. I enjoyed many of them in Café Al Bacio one afternoon last year. Also, basic frozen drinks (as long as they aren't of the specialty variety) are generally included - I've had pina coladas and mudslides.

Don't upgrade unless you find you must. Try out your classic package for a day or two and if you find yourself being denied drinks you really want, then upgrade.

When I don't have an included drink package (or Drinks on Us card from the casino on Carnival), I don't spend much on alcohol.

If I upgraded on my 9 night cruise, I'd be spending basically the same as just buying individual drinks out of pocket. Upgrading isn't for everyone.

We've never had a problem ordering pina coladas, frozen daiquiris, white Russians, mudslides, frozen toasted almonds with the classic drink package. There is another post on here with a whole list of drinks available on the classic package. Happy sails!

Not really.

The cost to up grade is a flat $11.80 per day, and increases the package coverage to $13.00 per beverage.

Last cruise the red wine the wifester liked was $13.50 a glass, with the upgrade we paid .59 cents for each glass, she had 2-3 with dinner alone. Without the upgrade it would have cost us $47.79 for the 3 glasses every evening!

That alone was quite a savings for our 10 days.

That is not entirely correct. If you are making a choice of perks when booking then both have to have the same perks. However if one person wants to pay to upgrade to the Premium package they can.

This is not quite true. If you're given a choice of perks like $300 OBC or a drink package, then your choice applies to the first two people in the room. You can't get a drink package while your husband takes the $300 OBC.

However, not everyone in a cabin has to have a drink package. I sometimes get just the soda-only package and my traveling partner pays a la carte.

They're very clear that the packages cannot be shared. You have the option of paying the full price for a premium drink for the person on the classic package. Or you can pay the $11.80 per day to upgrade like everyone else.

I have the premium pkg for my wife and I so my comments don't apply to us. If I have classic and wife has premium and we order 1 classic and 1 premium drink what difference does it make who drinks it? How would we be cheating? We paid for for 1 of each. It would be cheating if I went to two different bars and ordered a premiem at each and then gave my wife 1.

I can't see anything wrong with that - one person is drinking a Premium drink and the other is drinking a Classic drink, which matches the drinks packages you have.

Only if they were both drinking Premium wines at the same time. If they stick to one Premium and one Classic then they are ordering as per the packages. There is no rule to say people can't swap drinks.

If one of you gets the Classic package, please be prepared to order drinks that are included on this package. Sharing isn't allowed, so you and your DH won't be able to exchange. Celebrity staff is trained to keep an eye out for that, and you run the risk of having your packages pulled. We were on Reflection and spoke with a man who was very upset because the bar staff came over and called him on drinking something someone else with a better package ordered. This was done in front of others, so he was embarrassed, but he admitted he was trying to cheat the system. We also once saw a waiter come over and take a drink away. So, just be aware of this. We always upgrade to Premium because we don't want to have to think about what is included and what is not, but not everyone feels that way.

I think the waiter should have given the guest the benifit of doubt and explained the policy discreetly.
