Even children wearing swim diapers are not allowed in the pools on Carnival.

You are 100% correct. I double checked carnival's FAQ and it did indeed say swim diapers are not allowed. i didnt know that. Glad i didnt bring my daughter on the my recent cruise a couple of weeks ago. I would have been breaking the rules. not on purpose, just out of sheer ignorance.

when you're right, you're right. lol.

can someone either post a link or pic for the chain dress or tell me what to google? I googled "chain dress" but nothing terribly shocking came up, so I figure I am missing something.

google "Carnival Cruise Chain Dress". when you see it, you'll know it.

Google cruise chain dress. Go to images and there is one of a couple in front of a picture of a cruise ship, a few rows down.

HOLY CRAP!

Thanks for the clarification! You were not kidding! I knew it when I saw it! LOL

We would LOVE to bring our little grand daughter on a cruise with us. And we will. AS SOON AS SHE LEARNS TO EAT AT THE TABLE WITHOUT RUNNING AROUND. Hopefully, by 5, but if not......then later. Worse case scenerio....her parents come along and eat with her in Lido and we dine in the MDR. I will not ruin OUR dining experience OR that of our neighbors.

Yes, it is bizarre. And maybe not unexpected. Right now there are some 750,000 passengers aboard the 25 largest cruise ships and probably more than that on all of the smaller ships that make up the main fleets that we think of when we say cruise ship in the US.

That's 2 to 3 times the size of the population of Milwaukee.

Ahem... that's one zero too many. (It would be 30,000 passengers per ship.) 75,000 passengers is about right, though. Your main point, however, is valid. It's still the size of a small city / medium size suburb and *someone* among those is bound to be doing *something* inconsiderate at any given time.

At the steakhouse I think I would have a chat with the maitre d'. I'd tell him that I am not paying $35 per person only to have my meal ruined by someone's kid running around like a banshee. He would either do something about it or I would march down to the purser's office and demand that the charge be removed from my account. If they refused, I'd have them take $70 off the gratuities.

Changing a diaper in the dining room? Same thing...go to the maitre d'. If nothing is done about it, threaten to have their gratuities removed – and then follow through with the threat.

People vote with their money...hitting someone in the wallet is the best way to get a point across.

Sadly the Maîtres d' in the restaurants did nothing and no one took responsibility for enforcing the pool rule regarding diapers. (Yuck!) Hopefully you took the time to let someone know.

ahhhh..........Charlie, you have 1 to many zeros there!, it 75,000.

It seems to be the new norm. The more the rates fall and allow a new set of cruisers to cruise, that lower skill set is climbing on board, and bringing their lack of social skills with them.

I took "low skill set and lack of social skills" to mean low class, but not in the socioeconomic definition. You can find "low class" in all socioeconomic classes.

Someone suggested a couple of days ago on another thread that young children shouldn't be allowed in the steakhouse -- well, he was FLAMED!

I kind of agree with him.....:o

I also agree that the scenarios OP described were -- in additon to being failures of parents to parent appropriately -- were also failure on the part of the maitre d'. Yikes!

Changing a crappy diaper in a dining room is nothing short of a public health hazard!

CDC Center for Disease Control would be VERY INTERESTED in learning about that!

People who have no regard for others should stay home! I would've said something to the Maitre D' if I had seen someone changing a baby's diaper in the dining room! That is absolutely disgusting and--low class! Actually, I would've said something directly to that person doing this.

As far as the pools and hot tubs---you see children in the hot tubs all of the time and they are not supposed to be in them whether they are in diapers or not. Also, you see children in diapers in the pools too, yes, the adult pools. Carnival needs to enforce their rules.

And where are the parents? I cannot tell you how many times I see children of all ages running around the ship unsupervised. Very unsettling and such behavoir can make you have a miserable time on your cruise.

As far as the couple posing for provocative photos--again, low-class!

Someone changes a diaper in the MDR while I am eating, and the WHOLE ship will know about it. I would be very loud and vocal. I can overlook a lot of stuff but this is way beyond the line I draw. If something wasn't done by the Maitre D' I would go over his head til I got to the top. Every single other person on that ship should be taken into consideration. Just disgusting.

I would be right there with you.

I was an EMT for years and a 9-1-1 dispatcher for almost 30. there isn't any bodily function or condition that occur to the human body , that I have not seen, handled or heard about. But nothing gags me like a dirty diaper. My own kids included .

If I had been in the steak house an that happened to me. Those parents would have received my bill. I go to the steak house to enjoy the peaceful time and wonderful service.

Parents today think they can come on a cruise and leave everyone else to care for THEIR kids. Wrong. I cruise to enjoy myself and expect parents to care for their children in a proper manner. To bad in todays society they think everyone else should. And dare you say a word about the behavior of their children to them.

I say remove them from the ship. Maybe next time they will take the hint. Make your children behave. I know the parents will say they are on vacation to. Well so am I and don't disrupt mine by allowing your kids to act like monsters.

Sorry for the rant.

If I saw someone changing a dirty diaper in the MDR, I would go ballistic and chase them out of there! No need to wait for the Maitre'd. That is beyond disgusting.

On a cruise last year there was a group of 6 women, looked to be in their 30's, on the cruise. They sat near us in the MDR each night. Nicely dressed, but short tight dresses, lots of makeup, lots of drinking and loud talk. Nothing too bad, but one night we were sitting outside the casino enjoying the band, when these women came to a photo setup near us. They proceeded to take turns as couples or threesomes or alone in very provocative poses. I'm no prude but it made me uncomfortable. And yes, there were lots of kids around. Seems they could have asked for a private session!

If you don't want to parent your child, i'll parent them, and I'll parent the parent too. I have no problem speaking up! Diaper changing in the MDR? give me a break. That parent would have been told where the nearest RR was. I also would have notified staff if a baby was in the pool. that ruins everyone's vacation if someone gets sick.

bad parents!
