On more than one occasion on the Getaway in June, someone had let kids into the studio lounge, where they were ransacking the baked goods (examine a piece of poundcake critically, set it back down on the serving tray, pick up a different one for your stash).

I'm cool with restricted access. Especially as the studio prices rise and rise.

to add to my point... I wonder if the preice fo in Penthouse? I doub t it. But ddontg know what it c osts for the cr cabin in. I sure know it was many thousdands for me alone in Penthousse.tyhough it is a v ery nice cabin.

On my cruise one girl from a family that was cruise had a solo. I do not if they ran out of larger cabins or she just wanted some private space.

But because she had a solo room the family used her key to get into the lounge and sample what they wanted, so here we have two adults, two teenagers(?), and three young children running about the lounge and taking all the cookies (and I do mean all the cookies). I told them the lounge was only for solo travelers and they gave me the old stink-eye. But on the other-hand I did not see them again.

When I saw the kids in the GA studio lounge picking up poundcake, examining it, and putting it back down before grabbing different pieces, I violated my own 'do not talk to strangers' children' rule and told them to knock it off, that that was how people got sick. So they picked up the ones they'd already touched and took those too. I avoided the pastry display for the next few restocks.

I've reconciled myself to the fact that the people who let their kids do this kind of thing aren't the kind of people who care what I think. :)

I loved my studio experience on the Epic and the studio lounge, but I wouldn't have loved the lounge if I'd seen that kind of behavior! Yikes! I'm booked on the Epic again next year and looking forward to it. I loved having a nice quiet place to go in the mornings to have some coffee and a pastry. :D

Maybe because they knew that the studio lounge is for guests staying in studio cabins regardless if they are traveling solo or not ...

If you're trying to split hairs here, I don't think it's working.

If I've misunderstood, my apologies.

I should mention that I only saw the group of kids once, but I've noticed people obviously bringing in other folks to use the coffee machine and such. But generally the lounge is fairly empty, so it's not like we're getting overrun.

During the day all doors to the lounge would be locked.

I got in because once the Solo Director let me in I would talk to all the people I met so anytime later if the cruise director was not there some other solo cruiser would let me in. Also late at night I would find on the upper level the doors to the lounge was not locked so anytime after about 10-11 PM I could enter the solo cabin area and then the lounge.

Please, there were a few time I was unable to get into the lounge because there was no-one there and all the doors were locked. But on those few occasions it did not matter because it was a big ship and there always was somewhere to go where people were around but you did not have to join in a group.

The lounge area near the Piano Bar was a great spot, also the Movie under the Stars in the back of the ship. I also watched the movies being shown in the lobby mid-ship but it was not as nice as the back.

DANGER! DANGER! DANGER! If it is late at night and you are feeling a little lonely do not walk by the Sweet-Spot. The Black Forest Cake kept talking to me! It kept saying 'Eat me, eat me'. I finally had to get it and a milkshake made with real ice cream, then take it to the lounge at the Piano Bar to shut it. It was GOOOD!

PS. I just looked at the Youtube tour of the GetAway Solo Lounge and it is a lot smaller than the one on the EPIC. If the same amount of solos were in there that I saw on the EPIC then people would be stepping on each other's toes. I can see why they had to tighten the rules.

I also done the epic earlier in the year but met some nice solo travellers who were in inside cabins and were able to get their keys sorted for the lounge [emoji8]

Great place for socialising and having some late nite hot chocolate and cookies. If I forgot my key someone always recognised me and let me in. Every one was so friendly great cruise!!!!

I originally booked a studio cabin, but then discovered a balcony was only $47 more. Of course, I upgraded. But, still, it's so much more for a single to cruise. I understand if I can't participate in the solo activities, but I'd love to be able to participate in some activities! I promise, I won't eat any snacks! lol! How would I go about seeing if I could participate in, at least, some dinners? It's my first solo cruise and I'm so afraid of not talking to anyone the entire cruise!

Your daily planner on the first night will list something like "Solo Cruiser Meetup" and the location will be a bar. Get there at the time listed or slightly before. You'll meet other solos right away. (Sit by yourself and smile at any newcomers will help.) Within five minutes of the set time, the official NCL solo coordinator will show up. They're actually a member of the cruise staff and will be in uniform. Keep a lookout for them. He/She will take you and the others down to the Studio Lounge where other solos will be waiting. (These will be the Studio stateroom guests....some Studio guests will meet up at the bar not knowing...) Then the meeting will officially take place.

The next nights, you'll be told to just meet at the Studio Lounge. The NCL coordinator will prop open a door. They will tell you which door. OR they may have you meet every night at that bar and be escorted down....just check the planner.

Feel free to partake in the Studio Lounge nibbles and bar, if applicable, during the meeting. And get the NCL coordinator's phone number in case you want to make a change to your solo-gathering related reservations, like shows and dinners.

Thank you so much for your help! Knowing what to do makes me feel so much better. I get along with everyone and look forward to meeting new people. I almost didn't upgrade because I didn't want to lose the activities of the Studio Lounge. Now I can drink my coffee and wine on my balcony and I can meet other solos! One more thing....Should I make dinner and show reservations for myself- just in case I have to go alone- or play it by ear? Or is it too difficult to change a reservation? What's your advice?

I would make my own preferred reservations asap. It's far easier to cancel than create ideal ones.

I agree with the advice to make your reservations prior to boarding. You can change them on board. My experience has been that the crew member who works with the solos doesn't make specialty restaurant reservations unless he or she is asked to. They're usually made in one of the MDRs. You can bring it up and work with them to select a date and time for a group to dine in one of the specialties and then cancel or change your previous reservation. Or, you might meet someone you hit it off with and if you already have a reservation he or she can join you since they'll be seating you at a two-top anyway.

I recently cruised on NCL Escape in a studio cabin and really enjoyed having 24/7 access to the Studio Lounge. Solo travelers gathered the first night of the cruise and were given an activities list for the week from our coordinator (Sharon Waugh was fabulous). Solos that were not in studios only had access to the studio lounge during the time the group gathered to go to dinner at one of the complimentary restaurants. I met a diverse group of fun solo people on my cruise! I looked at booking another studio cabin for a future cruise but NCL's prices for a studio cabin have dramatically increased. :o It's no longer advantageous to book a studio.

I've only been on one NCL, but have priced many because I'm constantly looking for a deal and cruise to fit; time, budget and ports. With that said, the studios are often priced lower. I don't recall ever seeing one priced less.

According to NCLs website "And if you’re traveling solo, Norwegian Getaway, Norwegian Breakaway, Norwegian Epic, Norwegian Escape and Pride of America feature our award-winning Studios designed and priced for solo travelers, which also include exclusive access to the Studio Lounge.

It's priced for solo travelers, in this last case, for me, it wasn't. I'm not saying since it sucked I want access, I just want access so I can meet other people. I hung out in the lounge on my last cruise and I don't recall seeing people sneaking in or complaining about people sneaking in. Maybe it's different per cruise, but I don't think others in the studio cabins would mind if other solos came down to plan. But who knows, maybe they would mind as some of you do.

All you can do is ask though, which is what I intend on doing. And if they say no, they oh well. I can find plenty of things to do on my own and perhaps meet other people outside the lounge.

Any solo on the ship is invited to the solo lounge during the designated meeting time on the dailies, also the coordinator will include everyone who wants to be included in solo group dining and other events he or she has access to.

unless things have changed, only yhe newer ships had a studio lounge, and recently, theyve limited access to studio guests only. Solo gatherings have been in one of the bars.

they do not limit solos access for nightly minutes, all are invited, otherwise they would not post it in the dailies for the entire population

I believe the poster you quoted was saying they limited access to the lounge to only those in studios and held the nightly meet-up in one of the bars. That way lounge access wasn't an issue since the meeting was in the lounge.

I was on the Escape a couple of weeks ago and the solos coordinator Jojo opened access to the studio lounge for the nightly gatherings as has been previously reported. I did see a few people bringing other guests into the lounge occasionally throughout the cruise but it certainly didn't seem to be happening excessively at all. They seem to change the coordinator weekly, it was Rowena the week afterward as she had her schedule up when I stopped into the lounge on disembarkation day.
