Ocean Medallion Holder Survey

It'll be interesting to learn in November if that is accurate or not.

Governments are attempting to improve security features on identification including passports. I can only speculate but would think there would need to be a physical inspection & scanning of passports during the embarkation procedure. I don't see how a photo of a passport added to ***** pre-cruise would be sufficient but that's merely my guess.

And if a scan & inspection are required at the port (at check-in, security or boarding the ship) that would slow down the boarding process & thus not save time.

None of us will know for sure until November or even later as adjustments are made to have a fully functioning ***** system. It'll be interesting to learn all of the facts & not merely our speculation about the ***** system.

Of which a lot of speculation is in this post

Totally agree! And I also still have not gotten the survey, however since I reported yesterday afternoon about my spouse getting one, I have been checking my email and I have gotten other emails about the best beaches for visiting or something lol!!!

As stated before this is a random sample and they only need a small pool to extrapolate the data. Not everyone gets it

What I find amusing about this survey is that seeks exactly the kind of pricing data that the medallion itself will someday provide. Once it is up and running, the medallion will eventually be able to tell Princess the optimum price ("what the market will bear") for everything from these trinkets to the cruise fare itself, based not on what what a limited number of survey respondents say, but on actual sales results from all medallion-bearers. And algorithms will allow the data to be sorted by a virtually limitless variety of factors, e.g, ship, season, itinerary, demographics, your previous spending and, yes, how much time you spend at the buffet and elswehere.

And this efficiency helps to keep cruises at record low prices adjusted for inflation

So you wouldn't like to use the find feature to locate your husband or wife?

Sound like a neat feature to me.:)

Unlocking you door without having to pull out your card when you hands are filled with coffee & food. Another plus.:)

You still have to pull the handle on your door to open it so that point is not valid. NO I don't need to know where anybody is every minute of the day. Perhaps I met someone (same sex person no dirty mind here) and was chit chatting. Who needs the intrusion of your spouse hunting you down. People need their own time and space and prefer some privacy. As I said before, those who like it can have it and people like me will opt out or use an RFID wallet.

What if the medallion shows the price you paid for a cruise with the corresponding cabin type? I sail in full suites (sometimes mini suites ) so if tech is to be used to maximize profit then I'd get a lot more service then others which obviously I'm not seeking since I'm going to opt out. Tech can work against you too. Anyone trying to board a tender during the elite priority time will hopefully be stopped due to this tech, a plus many. Any infraction will be caught immediately, another plus. But privacy is my most important concern.

Just checked my own email again... Princess just sent me an email about Asia cruises but not the Medallion Survey.... I will still wait to see if I get it ..... if not then looks like they are targeting newbies for their thoughts on the costs of buying these "fun" (kidding) extra's.......

We got the survey...We're elite. I made a comment that it was just another way to take our money. We'll stick with the card. If it ain't broke, don't fix it.

Supposedly, when you get to the ship you will be able to just walk on - no checking in.

Not true.

Check-in will probably be quicker, but you still must show your passport (or other acceptable ID) and fill out/turn in the health questionnaire.

I do not see how the medallion 'adds value' in terms of sales data, price points etc.. This data is already available to Princess - the medallion does not store the data, the central computers do. That data should be available to be crunched already.

Locating people, tracking passenger flows in areas and allowing passenger access to 'information' AKA sales stuff seem to be the main extras that ***** will bring (and marketing puff of curse).

This could be lots of fun. DW will not wear a lanyard (she is a retired teacher who wore her last lanyard the day she retired), will not wear an ugly wrist band, and usually has no pockets. So, she will often ask me to carry her cruise card. So one wonders what the ship sensors will do if I have two medallions in my pocket (hers and mine). I have this vision of walking down a corridor and seeing little puffs of smoke coming from each sensor as I pass.

It'll just assume that you two are a little friendly. :D

I have read that the cost of the Medallion if you should lose it is $10.

Don't believe everything you read on the internet, including cruise critic.

Medallion replacement is free for Club Class cruisers. (I just made that up)

From the ocean faq:

What happens if I lose my Medallion? How do I get a replacement? Is there a cost?

If you notify the crew that an Ocean Medallion has been lost, it will be identified and/or replaced at no cost. Your Ocean Medallion can be disabled at any time by you or an appropriate crew member.

If they want me to use their medallions, I'm not paying to display it.

I think it must be similar to our Prius FOB. I'm not into wearing Lanyards. I always bring one, but so far I've never in my life used one, LOL...perhaps I need one with lots of Bling. My plan is to carry it in the tiny purse I always have with me when on cruise ship. Not all my clothing has pockets, so my tiny travel purse works great to carry my comb, chapstick, lipstick, casino cash, cell phone, cruise card or a FOB. ...BUT perhaps as a winner of an onboard Trivia Challege they will now give out FOB Accessories :D. (PRINCESS!!! THIS IS A GREAT IDEA <3). I might be inclined to use the watch looking accessory, but I doubt I will purchase one.

Why should anyone have to purchase any of these options in order to use the Medallion system? They want us to use it they should give us all three as a no cost option.

agree.. they should furnish holder or what ever

I doubt that would ever happen as it would be worth more than 25 cents.

Hardly. Still have to wait in line, provide your passport and credit card, sign the credit card agreement and the health report, wait for them to find you personal medallion just like the they do with the cards, and get you picture taken. No change. Same for arriving back on board and departing in a port. The medallion will have to be compared to the face on the screen by security. If not, than anyone could walk off or on with someone else's medallion. Facial recognition is next and likely coming to a cruise near you soon. Take your glasses off.

Of course it does. They will track what you drink, where you drink, and how much you drink. The they will increase that drink price just for you!

The data collection is insidious. iRobot, the maker of Roomba, is now collecting data from their Roombas on the homes they "clean." The latest versions have small cameras to help guidance and iRobot says that they will be able to tell what you have in your home, its size, what your preferences are, and sell that to marketers.

If anyone here believes that Princess is doing this to "assist" passengers and make cruising more "pleasurable," they will gladly sell you an inside cabin over the engines for the price of their largest suite. They will collect the data in ways we haven't imagined and sell it to marketers. Beware!

I agree with your point re data and marketing. I was just pointing out that they already have the drinks data (who, what, where, when) from the bar till receipts (AIBP notwithstanding though IIRC they still ring up the drink with your card - they just do not print a receipt).

The vast majority of the cruisers have already provided their credit card information and have no need to sign anything at check-in, unless, of course, if they desire to change the credit card that they want to use. Some cruisers may very well need to take a bit of time due to lost/forgotten Medallions or if they want to use the cruise card in lieu of the Medallion. What is going to be needed concerning the passport and health form? Good question. Also, I suspect that those people traveling to Alaska who are using birth certificates or enhanced drivers' licenses will still need to go through a check-in process of some sort but like the previous part of this paragraph that is also just speculation on my part.

Going on the March 2018 Caribbean Princess that starts the Medallion cruises on her. Neither husband or I, both elite, got any surveys. Since most of my clothing have no pockets, I will be putting the medallion where I usually put the cruise card....in my bra. Actually it will be real easy to open the door now..just used your elbow when carrying drinks!!

Hardly. Still have to wait in line, provide your passport and credit card, sign the credit card agreement (unless you are not using the credit card you entered into the Personalizer, there is no need to produce a credit card and sign anything about it) and the health report, wait for them to find you personal medallion just like the they do with the cards,(your Medallion is mailed to you pre-cruise. Unless you do not bring it with you, there is nothing they need to go find. This is a big timesaver.) and get your picture taken. No change. Same for arriving back on board and departing in a port. Please see comments in red above.

Princess never claimed the Medallion would make returning to the ship at a port quicker.

I'd be happy to wear a wristband and wouldn't complain about $20, seeing we spend around 5K on a cruise, another $20 won't be a worry. Besides, a wristband is so convenient...no more scrounging about in purses and pockets.

I love you Anna!! Totally agree!! Where can I get one now?

The flimsy one comes complements but they'll sell you a more expensive one in one of the on board stores, I'm sure.

I'll bet they have different models for every pocketbook.
