Solo Cruisetour pricing

I have mainly sailed with Celebrity, and I'm interested in the experiences my fellow cruisers have had with other lines with respect to cruisetour pricing. I don't like (but understand and accept) paying double fare for a cruise-only trip. I realize that they are potentially losing the additional revenue from the second passenger's excursions, casino usage, shopping, bar tab, etc., etc. What I don't understand is why they charge a full 200% for a cruisetour. Why is the land portion doubled? There are no add-ons that they would be shorted if only one person went. I need one hotel room, the same as a couple. I'm actually costing them less for included meals. Are all lines like this?

Thanks,

Julie

  • 1 month later...

The 200% for the tour doesn't surprise me at all. I was interested in an X cruise and the TA quoted me a price which was ... wait for it..........250%. How's that?

I said I'd have to think about it.... I did think long and hard, about 5 seconds... no thanks, I'll stick with NCL. My first cruise as a solo (lost my DH 2 months ago) is 140%. I think I can handle that.

I guess some cruise lines just don't like solos..??

Enjoy your cruise,

Connie

Don't confuse land tours and shore excursions. Have never seen additional charges for solo shore excursions, but for land tours combined with a cruise, that include lodging, that is common. You will see this on non-cruise land tours too...nearly all have single supplement extra charges, with a few exceptions. For example, Vantage, Gate 1, and Road Scholar have many tours with no supplement, or only a small supplement (less than 25% often).

Thanks for clarifying as I was assuming the poster was talking about shore excursions and had never heard of them being charged supplements.

An escorted tour - with land and sea components is generally priced the same as if it was a normal escorted tour on land - ie some companies charge no supplement and others charge a percentage portion or 100% supplement.
