NCL Sky - Sailing Cancelled, Port of Call Cancelled

I originally booked a 3 Day Bahamas Cruise on the Sky for December 2nd as a birthday gift to myself. I received an email from NCL a few weeks ago that my sailing on 12-2 had been cancelled due to the cruise being sold as a private charter. I was a little frustrated but NCL did offer to move my reservation to a different sailing on the Sky and my rate would remain the same when I booked it. Plus they offered to pay up to $300 per person in airline change fees. I called the dedicated number provided and moved my reservation a month earlier to the November 4th sailing on the Sky.

Today, I went on MyNCL and noticed that the call to Great Stirrup Cay was no longer there and was replaced with a sea day. The only port of call for this cruise would be Nassau. One of the main factors for taking this cruise was the visit to Great Stirrup Cay which I haven't visited before. Needless to say I am a little ticked off at this point. I call the guest relations number and speak to an agent as to why this call had been cancelled. She did not know who transferred me to another department which they provided the same answer. I was transferred yet again and they offered no explanation as to why this port of call had been cancelled.

While being on hold between the three different agents, I did some checking on NCL's website as to what cruises were currently being offered in the October, November, and December 2016 timeframe for the Norwegian Sky. All cruises during these times included a call to Great Stirrup Cay except for the November 4th sailing (the one I have a reservation). I've already had to rearrange work schedules and such once to move my reservation a month early now they want to cancel a port call??

Has anyone had a similar experience happen to them?

Are you sure it is not a glitch? Sounds like that to me since all the other dates GSC is listed. I would also think it costs more operationally for sea day then parked except for possibly casino revenue.

From the three people I spoke to they show this cruise no longer calling Great Stirrup Cay. They couldn't explain why.

Probably a glitch and the 3 people you spoke with either didn't realize it is a glitch or couldn't explain why there is a glitch. Since you have several months yet why not just wait for a couple weeks and then look again?

None of the agents I spoke made any mention of a glitch. I shouldn't have to wait a couple of weeks to "try again".

True you shouldn't have to wait but I bet if you do in a week or so it will show up as a port stop and I bet it is a glitch.

Customer service reps usually follow a script and have no clue in my experience.

And if it is not a glitch, is it THAT horrible to have a sea day in such a beautiful environment??

It's not horrible. I just don't appreciate being treated in this way. I have already lost my original cruise date. Had to ask for additional time off from work and make everything work out for a November sailing with the same itinerary. For them to go behind my back and take off a port of call is absolutely unacceptable. It is one thing to cancel a port of call due to weather but you don't cancel ports seven months out due to weather.. It its not a system glitch then its a business decision.

It's possible a charter is using GSC that day. I've heard of this happening in the past. While i can sympathize with your frustration(especially after getting bumped) things like this do happen. The good news is you have some time before your sailing. RCCL recently had to cancel sailings twice now on the Empress only days/weeks before the sailings. I can only imagine that disappointment.

I personally love sea days, so try to enjoy!

You are aware that even if GSC is scheduled a lot of the times its skipped due to weather problems. I have missed it on both of my Breakway cruises. Didn't ruin my cruise by any means. So even if its scheduled chances are taken that it will be skipped

Yes I have heard of that scenario happening on more than one occasion. I understand a port call get cancelled due to something out of the control of the ship, like weather. This was a business decision that NCL made and they should make it right for those passengers who booked the cruise expecting this port call to only have it pulled away from them. In my scenario already been bumped from one cruise and having to redo schedules and plans to have this happen is completely unacceptable.

I found out some more information today from NCL corporate. I had a good conversation with someone from the executive team. I was told the reason for the November 4th sailing of the Sky to not call Great Stirrup Cay is because of a "berthing conflict". In other words, they have too many ships calling that port that day and the powers that be cancelled the Sky's call to that port. Furthermore, the decision to cancel this port of call was made prior to my rebooking on April 14th. This information was not made public until after I rebooked my trip.

If you look at the Norwegian Sky webpage on NCL.com (https://www.ncl.com/cruise-ship/sky) states:

"All of our Norwegian Sky cruises feature a whole day visit to Great Stirrup Cay"

All cannot be defined as all sailings expect one. This is misleading advertising.

ChrisCJSU- My family is supposed to be sailing on the Escape the week of Nov 5th. While we haven't received definite confirmation from NCL yet, rumor has it that the Escape is now going to be a private charter for that week. It's possible and only a guess that the private charter may be going to GSC. This is only my thoughts as to why GSC might have been removed. No matter what the reason it stinks!

The ongoing Norwegian Edge initiative announced updates coming to GSC: "We're enhancing our eco-fun paradise in the Bahamas with more of what our guests love: more beaches, more activities, and more places to relax and indulge." Maybe, as someone else mentioned, this is what is happening.

We are on the 11/6 cruise and were advised by the hotel director (a personal friend) that GSC will be closed for refurbishment and upgrades. I have no idea for how long or what will be done, but we also get a sea day.

Interesting, I was told a different story by NCL corporate. Based on my situation being displaced by a cruise and a port of call cancelled I was able to get an upgrade from an interior room to an oceanview stateroom on the 11-4 sailing of the Sky. Better than nothing. I only got this after talking with the executive offices at the company. All lower levels of customer service were extremely rude and didn't want to hear about my complaint. The onboard service on NCL ships is top-notch. The people working on shore need to take a lesson in customer service from the ship crews.

It amazes me how they can just take away a port without even suggesting an alternative except for a day at sea :(:( It's bad enough that they get there every second visit under normal circumstances, now they just want to upgrade the island and give your guests nothing in return for two months...I am really thinking this will be the last cruise on NCL if this is the way they treat their customers or cell mates. I have been on 5 different lines and never seen such poor service.: eek:
